In a few moments after my lunch I will be interviewing yet another candidate for a vacancy as a quality engineer, and from what I have seen of him I have another handsome guy :) Thing is, the more good looking they are so far the less likely they are going to get the job. This I can't understand yet? Maybe I need to find
a not so handsome nerd from the continent. It is very difficult at the moment to find someone with the right skills? Oh how difficult this is. Maybe this one is the right one :) Let us hope :) I have seen almost 30 candidates so far.

My candidates fall at the "first fence" if they don't recognise this symbol and it's meaning :)

In my line of work, this is important :) Those client employees I train so far don't know it, but in their work methodology it soon becomes apparent... It is six sigma, a method of statistical process control.

Well darn I knew that I guess I get past the first gate. What's next? Of course I work for a manufacturing company that is utilizing it.

If the candidate did know about six sigma, I would want to see evidence of work they had done in the past using those techniques. All candidates are asked to bring examples of their quality engineering experience with previous employers. I would look for this. And, if they knew about six sigma and it was not utilised by previous employers, then I would want to know why.

Here in the UK we have "major" manufacturing companies who for some reason do not use six sigma techniques in their quality assurance. To me personally I find this disturbing. And it gives us (our company) a great chance in training smaller companies (our clients) the opportunity to manufacture better
and more reliable products than the major companies. This is already happening in the rail transport industry. Major suppliers of certain parts have lost orders to one of our clients, because our client is now manufacturing safer reliable parts :)

Quite soon it may turn out that the minnow will be taking on the "ignorant" established whales?

I'm on my 2nd of 3 nine hour+ work day, so tired. Haven't looked yet, I should though.

These interviews are important for many technical reasons :) But this is a fun thread and warl0ck I understand is involved with such things in his working life... So, just to round off on business...
I have had some really handsome candidates that have kind of distracted me a little thinking what they would be like to have fun with ;) However, I realised that they would be nervous even more if I came on strong with them, so I have to keep things professional and show little interest in their looks :) A colleague of mine reminded me that in real life the male candidates may have erotic thoughts about me, but being interviewed by a woman can also make them feel uncomfortable? So far, I have had no female candidates.

If I was in another part of Europe, there would be quite a few female candidates perhaps?

Perhaps, I'm not sure. Disappointing there isn't a balanced field of candidates in UK. Mind I don't know exactly what you do but engineering should have at least some women working.

I didn't mean to be flippant about your interview situation and agree having a sexually attractive interviewer can be just as much of a problem as interviewee. I shall be hiring soon so don't look forward to that complication!

Sorry to run off but tomorrow is close at hand and will be busy.

Hope you get some good candidates soon.
