Why is destruction so much fun?

This weekend I actually got a couple days off. I was so happy to head to the northern reaches of Wisconsin and relax. I stopped at my mom's and no one was home...I took a shower, dressed in a really cute little black and white sundress and heeled sandals and walked down the block to my sister's house. I walked in and my mom was watching my niece and nephew. She told me my sister and brother in law and another nephew were out back. I walked out back, saw the dumpster and thought, "there goes my weekend."

Yes. We tore down their garage and placed it in a dumpster (tetrised that shit and made it fit!) I had a blast. This is something I do on a weekly basis at my job in the southern part of the state (yes ann when I take time off from the camming business)

I remember in my youth, my family always got together to do things of this nature. No one ever hired anything out. You needed something done? Family took care of it. What happened to that part of society? Maybe people just don't like their family enough to spend that kind of time with them?

And what is it about taking a sledgehammer and pounding the crap out of things that is so much fun? I love deconstruction! The last wall? I got to kick over...I did it right too....karate chopped the crap out of that wall!

I've never karate-chopped the crap out of a wall, but I have on several occasions entertained fantasies of beating the shit out of someone's car with a baseball bat.

I can imagine that it would indeed be enormously satisfying. :)

Demolition and destruction can be fun but also tiring and dangerous. I destruct and recycle sailboats for parts and pleasure. something appealing to taking a sawzall and watching the fiberglass splinters fly. On the other hand I am renovating an apartment and I had to surgically remove walls which contained live plumbing. I big pile of debris was satisfying but was exhausted later.
My son justs love to kick out the wall!

I always liked breaking down wood desks for the wood burner box in the winter. People still do their own work. My Father insists on painting the house exterior. I wanted to vinyl side it and pay for it.

The only car demolition I have done is with the jaws of life as an EMT. I didn't get to do much of that because the firemen did most of that

I am redoing a 110 old Victorian. Horsehair plaster and tons of dust!

I helped demolish the old house that stood on the place we built our house. Except for frequently surprising the same little green snake, it was fun. Being on a precariously perched ladder at the time made that a little too shaky for comfort.

It is fun isn't it? And freeing....something about smashing to make new... I just love it!

Yes. We were trying to salvage as much of the old house as possible so there wasn't as much smashing, just lots of prying and pulling. We knocked down the old chimney and salvaged the bricks, after much scrubbing, to use in our hearth and firewall.

I have asked this question, in despair, of my son. He meets my gaze levelly, before hurling the cannonball of his body once more into an impromptu fort of toys.

Why? Because there's no liability............unless you're using explosives or one of those big wrecking balls goes out of control.
