truly true, but I have a great story on the kindness of strangers nine years ago: a NYC cab driver who spoke very little English returned to a Broadway theater, left his cab, and found my mother and son in the line outside to return her purse. Mum was dying of pancreatic cancer, and we would not have made it through the evening, let alone the trip, without her serious pain medications in that purse. We didn't know she'd left it in the cab. I had finagled my way inside to beg for a chair for her in the air conditioning. The meds were back in her hands by the time I came out to usher her in to seated comfort.

Aw, there are good people in the world.
