Plasma? LCD? LED? 55", 60" or even 70"? Does Quattros color mean anything? They added yellow to the pixels??? Does brand matter? Is a Vizio just as good as LG, Samsung or Sony?

If your budget was around $1500, what would you get and why?

My husband bought a Sharp Aquos (80") for the rec room. I would highly recommend a Sharp & would think the 60" would be in that price range.
I don't know the tech part of TV's but plasma is on the way out,

That's what we've been looking at. We can get a Sharp Aquos 60" with 1080p resolution and 240hz refresh rate for about $1200. Our new house will have a very large great room. So, thinking a 60" will work. In our current home we have a 47" LG. It has worked great, but we will move that one into the basement of our new home.

Those are great TVs for the money, Sharps.

Check out Tigerdirect.com. They have refurbished TVs with good warranties and they're crazy cheap.

I'd say don't go plasma.

Ok, so I've been researching Xbmc media players as a means to cut cable out of my life. A good friend of mine added Sports Devil to his and can live stream almost all major sporting events including PPV plus a gazillion movies, TV shows etc. He watched the big boxing match a few weeks ago for free. So, anyone have input on these ingenious little boxes. They can be as cheap as $40 or about $1000 if you want to go crazy with it. Anyone have experience with this stuff. Where's Islandman? He's usually tech savvy with this stuff.

Also, Pmann, I saw a 70" Vizio with 1080p and 240hz on TigerDirect for $1200. Good stuff!

When I upgraded to an HD flat screen I eventually decided to buy a plasma display based on my research. But when I went into a Best Buy, all the plasma images looked significantly less color saturated than LED.

That's when I learned that the ambient lighting of the room you'll be watching the TV in is a critical component. LED still looks sharp and bright positioned next to a sliding glass patio door.

At least it does next to mine.

Plasma is outdated. A good LED is better these days.

But if I had obscene amounts of money, I'd get an OLED.

LED is the way to go, a couple of years back I bought a 55" Vizio LED Smart TV and I love it, picture is great. As a matter of fact all 4 of the TV's in my house are Vizio and so far have been very good to me. Now that I have typed this they will everyone go out as soon as I turn them on tonight.

do they still make plasmas? last i heard they had a bad rep for giving up the ghost way too fucking soon so most people just kinda said fuck 'em.

Put some pants on.

Yeah. TigerDirect is amazing. Check out their refurbished stuff, if you haven't. The prices are crazy good. Good brands. Good prices.

I have a Sharp, 65" LED that I bought about three years ago. It was a $3k+ TV at the time. I got it refurbished for $900 with a $100 rebate.

Panasonic has a handful, but they're phasing them out.

So, I think I finally have it narrowed down to the Vizio E65-C3 which is a 65" in 1080p Smart TV.

A Skystreamx Media player with quad core processor.

A keyboard/remote.

All for about $1200 to my door.
