The Joy of Rafting

Went rafting in Colorado. I think we went over a rated 3 rapids. They walked us over to the spot to look down on it and I figured...I'm gonna die, let's do this.

Didn't die!

It was a lot of fun.

If I lived somewhere pretty like Thør does, maybe then I'd go rafting.

I've only been in a raft a couple times, here at home. The canoe or kayak are my primary choices for local river watercraft.

That makes sense. I was speaking more generally, rafting, kayaking, canoeing are pretty uneventful here in the flatlands...

Uneventful can be a lot of fun.

At a little higher water than I experienced.

Used to float the Current in Missouri frequently, and it was a lot of fun. It's a beautiful, spring-fed river, and rather peaceful most of the year, but can be very challenging and exciting to canoe when the water is high. Akers Ferry is a good place to rent your canoe if you don't own one. They won't rent to you when the water is high, however. I'm not sure if it's because they value their canoes or your life. :)

Neither. They don't want to pay the higher insurance or lawyer fees.

They would definitely get sued if they did rent when the water is high. Somebody drowns on the Current every year, it seems. Not always when the water is high.

Frivolous lawsuits.

We rented gear for a grand canyon trip and it would have never occurred to us to sue the outfitter had we fucked up on the river.

It wouldn't surprise me if a jury gave a bunch of money to the family of someone who drowned if Akers were to rent a canoe when the water is high. Wouldn't surprise me a bit. I mean spilling hot coffee you bought from McDonald's on your own lap can get you paid.
