The Tammanys are NOT an award that you want to get, by the way. They're awarded for hypocrisy, graft, corruption, greed, and other vices that show one to be unfit for public office.

This week's Tammany, just barely (with Josh Duggar as a close contender) goes to Dennis Hastert, former Speaker of the House, who paid hush money to male staff while sponsoring homophobic legislation. Congratulations, Denny boy. Tweed would be proud, even if he was a Democrat and you're a Republican. More proof that corruption is bipartisan.

Along with Dubya, sure. LOL. Both have done their share of warmongering, hypocrisy, and corruption.

Can I nominate Obama for the lifetime award?

Eh. . .probably for his warmongering. But you're a conservative. You should be cheering that he grew up and put away childhood things like not murdering Muslims for fun not holding him to his word. You best believe if Bush had woke up one day raised taxes and started funding America's schools I'd file his flip flopping under "Good job, good job."

That's a bigger one than Ted Cruz who called to have funding for Sandy victims with held while people were dying and came with hat in hand when his state was under water?

Don't Dennis is clearly hypocritical scum but unless Cruz falls under "We're gonna need a bigger boat" territory I think we're giving the wrong person the award.

I would nominate Hillary Clinton for all the bribes, by whatever name you want to call them, she solicited as Sec. of State.

Still entirely uncertain how that is worse than Cruz's. I don't think if we're being honest anybody is even in Cruz's weight class this week on that front. Hillary may be a distant second. But she's second like who ever raced against Usain Bolt.

Oh, damn, I forgot about Cruz....that sack of shit. He gets Tammany for the month, Hastert just for the week. :D

I think most politicians should get some kind of honorary Tammany Award. Some of them are less successful in their chicanery, but they all try.

Acceptable! I like this game!

If you're not hustling in life it's because you lack the inteligence to do so. If any of us were in any of those positions we'd be doing something. I don't think I would ever be a Ted Cruz trying to tie disaster relief to budget cuts because that's downright evil. Like there is misguided, I think say Chenney who magically softened on gays when one of his daughters turned out to be gay is misguided (on that subject). I think when people are dead and dying from one of the biggest storms in history and you're trying to get people to make budget cuts you're evil. Like Saturday Morning Cartoon villain evil. If I could pull it without getting in too much trouble I'd definitely be swinging business towards friends and family when I could. I'd probably have an all female staff, and a staff who were both well paid and understood that I don't pay them for their secretarial skill set.

So in that vein you have to set a minimum level of corruption that you don't even get knocked for because DUH everybody who has sufficient power to pull that shit does. I do mean everybody, not just government officials. Let's not pretend we think anybody above middle management in a big company isn't pulling some sort of schemes. Maybe it's as minor as hiring his brother's son to a position he doesn't really deserve. Maybe it's overpaying on a contract to hook up a friend. And maybe it's doing what several banks were accused of a few weeks back and manipulating the market. People say power corrupts but it's not really true, people are corrupt. Power is just the ability to act on it.

Are non-governmental officials eligible?

If so, the list of corporate CEO contenders would be a very long one.

I wouldn't think so. Boss Tweed, who is associated with Tammany Hall, was a Dem. who was one of the biggest crooks in political history. Richard Daley and his son and namesake, also Dems. and mayors of Chicago, may have been the only pols comparable.

If you spread the notoriety too far, it loses too much of its value. Why not include those who cheat at sports swindlers such as Madoff and all the other dishonest persons in a variety of endeavors?

Who needs non-government types.

This week is damn near decided. The only way Obama and his support of the Patriot Act (or whatever this specific extention was called, I think it was the Freedom Act) wins or someone fucked up BIG. I mean something like Hillary gets caught cheating with an intern, Bernie Sanders drops out of the race to be a consultant for the Koch Brothers or Ben Carson declares Obamacare the best thing since sliced bread. I mean I know it's not even Tuesday for all of us but I feel pretty safe calling this. (whoever started this thread should actually edit the first post so at the end of the year we can tally it. It'll be fun!

Yes, though if non-government types get it, they would be Fox News for their mockery of Caitlyn.

Second prize next to Obama? The North Carolina Senate, for voting to override the Governor's veto of a highly unconstitutional bill that exempts public officials from carrying out their sworn duties of office.

Wait, the fuck did they do? Not Fox I didn't watch and didn't need to. The only way Fox would have shocked me is if they'd invited her to a twerk off with Megyn Kelly.

That sounds like something I'd like to watch. Even Megyn Kelly by herself. :p

True, they deserve their own awards.

Or, perhaps the Tammany Awards could have multiple categories, like the Oscars.
