tonight - 9pm bbc jonathon strange and mr norrell

Now that looks cool. What were the books like?

It's a short clip, hard to get an idea. Funny? Smart?

Neither one of them looks like they have a Big Black Cock.

Can they show that on Brit TV?

i think we show more on brit tv than american

but, damn, that show Blinging up Baby is just appalling  spray tans, makeup, bo-tox? it all goes. yuk

it's magic!quirky, clever, twisty, funny, dark... innnnnnteresting.and her first book!

I'm going to grab it at Audible. I'll take your word for it. The first was in 2004, are there more?

I am also getting Gone With the Wind, about 50 hours of that. My daughter and I are remotely reading together though a list of female badass protagonists. Some of them are more or less badass than others, but I do love Scarlett.

i've not heard of a second book, but maybe there is one but i just don't know of it.

ha! she's a strong character for sure, but i want to slap her at times

I'm not approving of her!

We've gone through a few I hadn't read before, Sula by Toni Morrison and then The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood.

It's an interesting discussion about what makes a strong female character and what makes a good author.

It was wonderful. But I missed the wonderful footnotes more than I thought I would. They were my favourite bit, but tricky to film in a period drama.

yeah, i don't know how they'd have incorporated that without breaking the flow of the production. did you find yourself slipping that info in yourself as you watched? :) can't wait for next week's ep. oh, mr norrell's library!

it is to be hoped that they manage to incorporate the notes in any terry pratchett book they film; they did with a hitch hiker's guide - though film or tv series i'm not sure.
