There is nothing so beautiful as a woman when she is being a mother…

Here is what others have said about the importance of mothers...

Stevie Wonder

All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.
Abraham Lincoln

I got to grow up with a mother who taught me to believe in me.
Antonio Villaraigosa

My mom is definitely my rock.
Alicia Keys

The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.
Theodore Hesburgh

Motherhood is... difficult and... rewarding.
Gloria Estefan

The babe at first feeds upon the mother's bosom, but it is always on her heart.
Henry Ward Beecher

Life began with waking up and loving my mother's face.
George Eliot

I was always at peace because of the way my mom treated me.
Martina Hingis

For when a child is born the mother also is born again.
Gilbert Parker

Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.
Robert Browning

God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.
Rudyard Kipling

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.
George Washington

The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.
Jessica Lange

Men - Tell us something special about your mother or the mother of your children...

Ladies - Tell us something special about your mother or about being a mom...

Great thread!!

I am lucky enough to have had a great mother to set the example for me to be the mom I am today. I have those days when I'm sure that I'm screwing everything up, but then I talk to my mom and she says she thought the same thing...and I didn't turn out so bad. :)

I love being a mom. I can't imagine my life being any different than what it is today. I am lucky that I have great kids who make me so proud on a daily basis (really be thankful that you all aren't Facebook with me where you would have to read about every little thing my kids do :) ).

Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful moms on Lit.

I have tried to post in this thread about 10 times. Nothing I can put into words is good enough in my own mind as a tribute to my mom. Unlike some, I did not have a "mother." I have a "Mom." As one of four children, you would think the lady couldn't be all and everything to each of them. But she is. And always has been. No mere words from this juvenile delinquent turned dirty old man can ever due justice to the respect, and honor this woman deserves.

I have said it many times and will many more, I love you Mom. And thank you. you have no peer. No being on this planet or in this life can compare.

I was the only child my mother was ever able to have.

My mom raised me to learn not to be dependent on a man for anything and she pushed me to do my best I school because she was just pushed through.

She taught me how to can my own food so I would have fruit in the winter and how to thread a needle so I could stitch any article of clothing when it was in need of mending.

And now I am the one that is taking care of her, because she made me the strong person that I am even though I don't let it show how much it tears me up inside to see her like she is.

My mum is a very strong caring woman who is always there for her children no matter what age we are.
Not only looking after me when I was a child but also when I was ill as an adult and mother myself.

Being a mother is fun, frustrating, rewarding, difficult and also a great source of joy.
My son had to write a paper on an inspiring person for a school assessment.
Was beautiful to see that he wrote it about me.
Gotta love these little beings that my man and I created.

My Mother by marriage was the most wonderful person, she taught me a lot about family and love. Once you were part of her family, you were always part. I've been divorced from her son almost 30 years but I am still part of the family.

My Mom had my back when I needed her most.

My children, my everything!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms on Lit. Seeing our children makes me think we must be doing something right, and appreciate that both our mother are around to see their grandchildren.

Hope you MILFs enjoy your day.

Happy Mother's Day!!

Just wanted to send to all mothers and moms my best wishes.
They are the one's who brought us into this world and were the first one's who showed us love.
My mother is a very strong woman. She had to be.
My parents packed their belongings, moved to Brazil, for their job and raised 5 kids.
She was wife, mother, and first to help anyone in need.
Stern, feared, and respected.
She was the Queen of my dad's life till he passed away.
Love her very much.

Through all the colic, midnight feedings, dirty diapers, coughs, fevers, and owies our mom's showed us how beautiful they really are.
As we got older and started to move away from "home sweet home," they were and still are the one's who say a silent prayer for each of their children and grandchildren.
The heavens and stars knew what they were doing when woman was created.
Bless all of them and love your mother because they loved us before they held us in their arms.
Have a blessed day ladies.
:rose: :rose: :rose:

And to the Goddess of my heart. Happy Mother's Day darling.

My mother passed a few years ago now.. she was the wife of a Navy husband and mothered seven children. She was a strict, no nonsense mom but had a great sense of humor. One of the, if not THE, strongest women I have ever known in my life. She had great wisdom and was happy to share with anyone who asked for that boost of love in the midst of their own trials. She passed with grace just as she lived.

I am blessed to be the mother of a wonderful son. I love him passionately and fiercely... which allowed me to see his strengths and his weaknesses and am so thankful that he was the gift I was given to nurture and care for in my youth. He has grown into a caring, responsible man and father... what more could a mother want?

And now I am doubly-blessed to be the grandma of two of the most beautiful, sweet and lovely little creatures on the earth today. When those little arms reach for me and grab me tightly around the neck.. there is no greater reward.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you!

I'd like to wish a Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there, including the one I cared about too.

My mom is the finest person to ever walk the planet. I've never met someone as selfless, caring, giving, thoughtful and loving as she has been. She's,my absolute favorite person on the planet and we have a special bond.

I hope that when we get together today, that she shows glimpses of who she once was.. That she remembers.. And feels the love. You're an amazing person MA... . I hope your rewards in the afterlife are tremendous, you earned them. As for now.. Keep laughing and smiling and we'll be thankful for the tiny victories..

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms :rose:
Taking my mom out later today for a nice dinner.

I know life because of my mother. It was her determination to live her life to the fullest, that gave me mine. She was my inspiration, my rock I could rely on to know where everything could start from. When she passed in 2006, I lost the one person I knew would always love me no matter what happened, or what ever I did or became.
Every year since her passing, I plant a flower in her honour and keep drawing whatever inspiration I can from them.

Every woman who willingly becomes a mother, becomes one of the most beautiful beings on earth, for no other will look upon you with such love and affection and care for you.

Happy Mother's Day to all you beautiful ladies. :rose::heart::rose: I love you all.

lovely, Incognito! Thank you!

My mom has been gone for 18 years, and we lost her right around Mothers Day, so it's a bittersweet day for me. She was a beautiful person....all my good qualities came from her example. I miss her every day.

I have two handsome sons who make me proud every single day. I couldn't ask for better kids.

Happy mothers day!

Somewhere in there, she remembers. She couldn't ever forget her favorite son and how wonderful you've been to her. *hugs* :rose:

Sorry 'mate. I watched my mom die from cancer, but at least she went fast. Hope it's a great day for all of you.

My Mother's Day story - that nobody will understand....lol..but I write this as a small example of our relationship....

My mom and dad (both passed now) were both avid bridge players. They played contract bridge (versus rubber bridge like at home parties), and both were rated as Life Masters. Both talked endlessly about bridge as I grew up...and I complained mightily when I was younger, but by the time I got to 7th or 8th grade, I decided I wanted to learn the game.

I took lessons and joined the "league" - but was never very good. But my mom and I started a tradition of going to the Elk's Lodge in town to play bridge as partners when I was about that age. On the first night we started, I was very nervous about making mistakes and embarrassing myself in front of her friends. But, as usual, she told me not to worry, it's just for fun anyways.

As we walked to the next table, she slightly groaned a bit and said under her breath, "Great - this guy is a horse's ass....I hope we clean his clock." The man in question was a retired judge that thought the world of himself and his intellect. My mom was a very kind person to everyone she met, so for her to use her favorite pet put down of the guy meant he was a first class jerk.

We took the cards out of the holders and I saw that I didn't have squat in my hand. I had a single suit worth mentioning, but had nothing above an 8 in any other suit. In that one suit, I had the ace, queen, jack, ten and the five. The bidding ended with the judge, seated to my right, as the declarer (the person playing the hand), so I was on lead.

There are various rules to the opening lead. An understood convention by all at the table, like a form of communication. If I led a low card in a suit, that would most likely mean I had at least 4 cards in that suit. If I led something like a ten, that would mean I had nothing in the suit. The playing of cards is a way of legally communicating to your partner.

My good suit had an ace in it, but one of the rules is to never under-lead an ace (play a smaller card). You either led the ace, or led a different suit. But one OTHER rule was to lead the top of a sequence...in my case, I had the queen, jack and ten. I could lead the queen - showing I also had the jack and ten - but it would, "violate" another rule - under-leading an ace.

As I had no other cards worth mentioning, I decided to lead the queen. The king was on the table (the cards allowed to be viewed by all). The judge decided I could not have the ace (else I would be violating an understood rule), and chose not to play his king. So, taking the trick, I played the jack - continuing the illusion that I had the ten but not the ace. The judge again did not play his king.

So, I played the ten....he "ducked" again (chose not to take it), and my mom showed she had no more cards in the suit....the judge glared at me, and I proceeded to take the ace and my last card to set them. We were the only defensive team to set that them that hand - also known as a top board.

My mom was curteous to the judge, who was very angry I had, "cheated" protocol...and my mom told him, as long as I didn't already know he was doing it, it was fair...and you know it."

We left the table and she gave me a great big hug...beaming that I had schnookered the judge. She told everyone she knew about it. I was probably 13 at the time...I am 56 now...and I can STILL recall her glee and happiness at what I had done. Shows how much her being happy and pleased with me meant - even all these years later.

If you do not know anything about the game of bridge, I am sorry for the length and topic....but I miss my mom and hope she still recalls that hand today...my present to her....

Love you mom....:kiss::rose:

I hope all of the moms had a wonderful day. :rose:

My mom was a bad ass, I remember how much she loved her bikers. :)

She was a very no nonsense, sassy, keen, and beautiful woman.

I loved that she always trusted my word.

She was respected and loved by many.

Miss you mom, love you.

Thanks, you guys.. I'm not sure she understood what mothers day was all about but she did know she was being fussed over.. The huge card with our names, the cake and the dozen roses in her favorite color red all hit home.. :)
