ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan marketing executive has recited the Muslim call to prayer in all 50 states.

Jameel Syed, 40, finished his 35-day trek Friday at the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit in the suburb of Rochester Hills. The trip included reciting the call on a Hawaiian beach after meeting with non-Muslims and inside a prayer room at Disneyland with Mickey Mouse.

Syed says some anti-Muslim bloggers criticized his trip but he called it a positive, "epic journey." He plans to write a book and produce a documentary.

The Auburn Hills resident said he sought to promote peace, not push faith.

"I don't like throwing religion in people's faces," he said. "I was in awe of the generosity and hospitality and love from people I never knew before."

Syed, founder and CEO of the Fluidvisions marketing firm, planned the trip for months.

South Dakota is last on Obama's list... and the feeling is mutual

When Barack Obama arrives in South Dakota on Friday, it’ll mark the 50th state he’s visited as president. But this isn’t the first time that South Dakota seemed to be last on his list – and the feeling seems to be mutual.

As president, Obama made it to every other state in the union at least once prior to his plans to give the commencement speech Friday at Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, near South Dakota’s eastern edge. But as a candidate, Obama was forced at the last minute to campaign in South Dakota – which with Montana held the last Democratic primaries – as he waged a grueling delegate-by-delegate battle with Hillary Clinton. He visited Watertown and Sioux Falls in mid-May, 2008, and even hit the Corn Palace in Mitchell on June 1. But he lost that election on June 3; Democrats preferred Clinton by 55 percent.

It’s only gotten worse since then.

In the general election, Obama won just under 45 percent of South Dakota’s vote, even though both Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson and Rep. Stephanie Herseth were re-elected. Democrats lost the at-large House seat two years later. Then in 2012, Obama’s share of the vote dropped to 40 percent, and in 2014, Democrats didn’t even come close to holding onto Johnson’s seat when he retired. Now Republicans hold all the state’s top elected offices.

There’ve been other indignities, too: The South Dakota Republican Party passed a resolution calling for Obama’s impeachment last June, and with his approval ratings in 2014 at 32.2 percent, South Dakota ranks in the bottom 10 states when it comes to approving Obama’s job as president.

“The Democratic Party is about as powerful and well-positioned in this state as the fashion industry,” wrote The Sioux-Falls Argus Leader’s Stu Whitney in a Friday column welcoming the president.

It’s no wonder, then, that Obama fantasized in a video montage at the White House Correspondents Dinner last month about adding himself to Mount Rushmore; that would make him a permanent presence in a state that has so far been less-than-welcoming to him.

Like I said, probably he has. It's something he should have known a long time ago, at least back when he was running for POTUS, and even before then. He was born shortly after the last state joined the union and began attending a Muslim school in Indonesia a few years after that, but he certainly should have learned it after returning to the US. :eek:
