Yesterday in the UK General Election the Liberal Democrat Party lost 50 out of the 58 seats it held in the British House of Commons. That is a wipeout!

Not so certain Sean. By elections invariably go against governments. And the average Tory MP is significantly older than the opposition's MP's - they will die - at least some will.

It is likely that Labour leadership will move to a more Blairite position (if McClusky permits) which could well leave the SNP as the only genuinely left wing party. The Unions will have to consider seriously who they should support in Scotland.

it was to be expected. they nailed their own coffin lid firmly in place after getting into bed with the tories which meant selling out on their major promises to the public - like scrapping tuition fees. people had got behind them and rewarded them with their trust, believing in them to keep their word. of course, once aligned with the tories, those promises were water down a drainhole.
