Is anyone having issues with the GB? every time I venture on there, out come the trolls.

And when I googled "is literotica down" because of website issues, found several sites of people wanting the forums to come down mainly because of GB douches.

This problem dates back, will it ever be fixed with better mods?

#1 the general board is moderated by the site owner, so if you have issues with the moderation, contact her.

#2 the people from the AH who recommended you post your topics on the GB were fucking with you. take your issues up with them, because they are the douches.

#3 you spammed the gb with your personal information and e-mail. no one appreciates that, especially when it is against site rules to spam your shit around. in this case, you were the troll.

have a nice day!

OPs and responses are nearly always snarky and angry and if anyone asks a question about participating in the site's bread and butter section, the stories, they are hazed by folks who seem not even to know this is a story site.

The GB is Laurel's favorite playground. It's where she herself plays. She must really be pleased how it serves the Web site.

It's so easy to say I spammed, when all I did was make a post asking for help with 1 book, then 13 months later inquired about finding similar help for all books.

Apparently, the definition of spam is quite different than I thought, because 1+ year between similar but not same posts is apparently spam?

That's the idiocy I just don't get, and apparently a direct email address is too personal?

Yeah. REAL helpful

you posted your website and email as part of a thread topic on the GB. people responded in kind.

from the forum rules:
6. Any post or PM made with the intent of promoting another site or a product will be removed. Spam is strictly forbidden. You may not send unsolicited PM's or emails to other users trying to promote other websites or products. Literotica is not a place to promote other websites, and we are very strict on this issue. If you abuse this policy, you will be banned. If you persist, your ISP will be contacted.

I am sure there is somewhere the other authors can direct you to to promote your personal website, but the GB is not it.

You got that right. Of course asking questions about the stories on a story Web site by posting to that Web site's General Board is going to receive snarky hazing and "what story site?" responses. (That doesn't sound just a tad bit idiotic to you?)

I've cut in on three such hazing episodes in just the last two days on the GB. I haven't seen one thread where the requester is given a civil response by the GB posters.

I'm sure that Laurel is just pleased as punch that her playground board is serving Literotica so well.

Laurel is the mod of the GB only in the sense that she is technically the mod of every forum as its her site.

The GB is un-moderated.

But its understandable that people there would get upset about someone looking for some support for their dream.

Because those threads take away from important things like starting more threads falsely accusing someone of being a sex offender and all the great threads with nigger and faggot in the title. And don't forget all the "burn the bitches" threads by LJ Reloaded. Don't want to mix anything constructive in there.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of fun threads and people over there, but the attitude of better than a few GB posters harbor makes me laugh.

You're posting on a free porn site...get over yourselves.

The GB is full of lonely fat retired guys pretending to be females who pretend to look for love in all the wrong places just to fuck with those few who venture there, at their own risk, to test the waters of an unmoderated free for all bulletin board.

Most of the GB posters are looking for a fight and usually get what they want.

Oh, for heaven's sake. The GB is perfectly friendly, unless you have the effrontery levels of an Austen heroine. I was made to feel very welcome there from the first day, and so were plenty of other people. But in any case, there is an editor's forum, an author's hangout, a poetry forum, and a technical forum. They are all higher up on the list of fora than the GB. Why would anyone wanting information about the stories, or a technical fault, skip ALL of those and come to the GB?

Mostly its because they're new.

I have no issue with older members being razzed a bit because they should know the boards, but the way the newbies are treated is a little to High school "Mean Girls" for me.

I wait until I know someone to poke fun at them or abuse them.

But its really only a handful of GB posters that are real jerks...unfortunately they all have a dozen alts so it seems like there are a lot more dinks than there are there.

Umm....I thought that was the Loving wives category?

Yeah, why would anyone new to Literotica with a question on the Web site think to go to a forum named General Board to expect not to be hazed coming out of the gate. I mean, really, what are they thinking?

TBH as a newcomer, the GB looks pretty much like an open sewer without the liberal application of a killfile, for exactly the reasons lovecraft68 spells out above (the ankle-deep racist bilge is particularly bad). There are some genuinely funny and interesting people there, but I'm willing to bet a lot of people seeing that particular forum for the first time take one look at the other stuff and just walk away, which is what I almost did.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that, and delighted you didn't. I always enjoy your posts. I don't have anyone on ignore - life's rich tapestry and all that - but others have said that just ignoring NeverEnding, Busybody and a small handful of others can make an immeasurable difference to the experience. I suppose in an unmoderated forum one is always likely to get a fair proportion of arseholes.

the OP has had threads moved from the GB to the AH before, and stated she would never post there again. in her previous (moved) thread, she was asking for donations so she could write a vampire store via a crowd funding site. fully knowing the atmosphere of the GB, she posted there again, and feigned shock, when people called her a spammer. "i'm not a spammer, i am an award winning author!" i don't care who the fuck you are, but when you spam your shit, you're going to get called on it. this is not a case of noob hazing, which is a completely separate topic from the issues this person is having.

Donations to write a story? Can she not afford paper?

Doesn't change the general assessment of how the GB responds to questions on the story file. Take a look at the initial responses today to the thread question on the story side being down (which it still is for a large number of Litsters.) Nastiness and hazing.

so, stay away from the GB?

so, stay away from the GB?

Naw. They deserve to be played with and shown a mirror.

Not to mention, the folks just stumbling in there for legitimate Web site help deserve better than they're getting.

Although I do understand that any mention of clothes the emperor/empress aren't wearing here aren't helping the Web site bamboozle advertisers about what's here and how well it's functioning.

Cheers for the kind words, and obviously it's not all bad. (Heck, even the bad isn't all bad, sometimes. The "Ulaven's alt lovecraft68" thread that came out of the recent drama was some quality tragicomedy in its way, for instance. ;))

No doubt. And obviously the other forums aren't all sweetness and light either, much as I tend to prefer AH overall.

When you get trolled on GB, remember to take into consideration the site that you are on.
