A post by Toubab inspired me to try again.
His Post.
In his post he quoted Tavis Smiley who said;
"Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” PBS host Tavis Smiley said “uprisings and riots” are the “new normal” and “will happen a lot more” unless America addresses poverty in the inner city which he said is becoming a national security problem.
Smiley said, “What do we see in Baltimore and Ferguson and beyond, racism, poverty and militarism. So Poverty is clearly connected to this. My sense is that this is going to become the new normal. These kinds of uprisings and riots will happen a lot more if we can’t get serious about jobs, jobs, jobs with a living wage for all fellow citizens.”
For the most part I agree with Mr. Smiley's observation. All except that "living wage" part at the end and whether I agree or not depends on exactly what he means.
Let's start with some observations. The American urban black, and those in suburbia around large cities, are as ignorant as ignorant can be. They can barely speak intelligible English much less hold down a job that requires skill and/or communication. So it really doesn't matter if there are jobs available, they are essentially unemployable.
The reasons for the ignorance are two-fold. The first is that the public education system is an abysmal failure, especially in those blighted areas. The second is a cultural attitude. You hear comments from the pupils such as, "That's "whiteys shit, we don't need that shit." A total failure to realize that education is the ONLY way out of poverty. It doesn't seem to matter whether the people running the education system(s) are black or not.
Meanwhile the government has decided to flood the job markets with upwards of 10 million 'immigrants' who are also unskilled. But they are motivated to travel and work any job to get by. This is NOT going to play out well for the black community.
Add to that the fact that those who watch these sort of things prognosticate that upwards of 30% of the labor force are going to be replaced by robots and computers within the next 20 years. This is not good for ANYONE! Especially anyone without a serious education.
Welfare and the various social safety nets are going to change dramatically in the not to distant future. Not out of any 'meanness' on anyone's part, but out of the fiscal realities that will face the nation in the future.
And yet everyone wants to point fingers, list the problems, and no one wants to step up, speak to the problem and propose a solution, a solution that is going to take some "tough love" in order to work.
