I'm dinged for my feedback a lot but I almost never abuse LIT peeps like I abuse famous authors.....

Here is the sort of writing only a homosexual fine arts perfesser will enjoy. I've never seen so many adverbs in one place, and I found myself praying to Jesus for chapters to end. Ross MacDonald is no Chandler on steroids, more like Chandler the 98 pound weakling in a delirious coma using a cheap thesaurus. .

I'm growing annoyed with famous writers who obsess with mundane, common details. In THE DEADLY EDGE by Richard Stark (Donald Westlake), Parker spent 2 chapters making a small hole in a roof, to get inside an auditorium.

For the most part, I agree. It rarely serves the plot, and seems to be there simply to justify the three months 'researching'.

The question I always ask, when I encounter irrelevant digressions, is: So what does it have to do with the price of tea in China? I read it in a book by Lawrence Block last night, a pimp takes Matt Scudder home and gives Matt a tour of the house. I assume the house will become relevant in the future but the tour serves no plot point now.
