you know refried beans aren't actually fried twice, right? they're well fried.
 
That actually could be interesting. You could take the cooked oatmeal and put it in a frying pan to crisp it up like hasbrowns...

I only re-boil the water.

The trick is how fast and how low you cool it before bringing it back to a boil. Then you only boil it until the water gets moderately thick.
