This was a federal offense, and the feds do have a death penalty. If he had been convicted of a state crime in MA, the governor would probably apologize to him for the embarrassment and inconvenience before letting him walk.

Normally I would say execute him quickly and with as little publicity as possible to save the tax payer. In this case I am thinking several years being terrorized in the worst federal pen until he is finally shanked and bleeds out slowly.

Boston Marathon bombers’ mother stood defiant in the wake of Dhozkhar Tsarnaev’s guilty verdict Wednesday, declaring in a message to a supporter that her convicted mass-murderer son is ‘the best of the best.’ The 21-year-old Tsarnaev was found guilty by a Boston jury this morning of all 30 counts – 17 of them carrying the death penalty – in connection to the deadly 2013 attacks.But the bomber’s mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaev, continued asserting Dzhokhar and his late brother Tamerlan’s innocence.
In a text message to her sons’ supporter Timur Rudaev, Zubeidat Tsraneav called the convicted killer ‘my precious boy’ before going on a rant against the US. ’America is the real terrorist and everyone knows that,’ she wrote in the text, which was later shared on the Russian social media site VKontakte and sent to the news blog Vocativ.
‘My boys are the best of the best,’ Mrs Tsarnaev added.
The scary thing is, she means it. The even scarier thing is, from her Islamic perspective, she’s right. This is war, but only one side knows it.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) said Thursday that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 21-year-old who was convicted Wednesday for the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, should not face the death penalty.
“My heart goes out to the families here, but I don’t support the death penalty. I think he should spend his life in jail. No possibility of parole. He should die in prison,” Warren said on “CBS This Morning.”
On Wednesday, a Massachusetts jury found Tsarnaev guilty on all 30 counts he faced for the bombing that killed three people and injured more than 200.
The charges included the aftermath of the bombing, which saw a massive manhunt for Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan, who died in a firefight, along with a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer.
Warren said “no one had much doubt” about Tsarnaev’s guilt and “nothing is ever going to make those who were injured whole.”
“But this is a step toward justice and now we go to the penalty phase,” she said.
Tsarnaev could face the death penalty on 17 of the charges. Warren maintained that a life sentence in prison would mean “he’s not a part of the ongoing story” about the bombing.
