What are your LIT goals?

I found this comment on a thread in Story Submissions and it made me curious:

I'll reiterate a point about categories and goals. Writing for LIT, what are your goals? If you want lots of Red-H's, write pandering pieces in low-reader categories. If you want eyeballs, post in Incest or LW -- those cats get the most views. If you want to *know* that you have affected readers, post in LW. You might not like all the comments but you won't go unnoticed.

So...I'm wondering now, what are people's goals on LIT?

I'm looking to get feedback on my stories and possibly build a bit of an audience.

I absolutely love the "If you want an H write pandering stories"

Those are the words of a hater, who used to be very happy with his own Red H's until his stories became troll fodder, now the H's are "pandering"

People who don't have a lot of H's tend to demean them and hate on them. I'm not saying they are always the best judge of quality of a story, but they provide a "reward" of sorts and something to strive for.

As far as goals, I've been writing here just shy of five years and have hit most of them, the one goal I came into this year with was to break the top five on the all time author list, I'm at six, so I have a chance.

As for your goals of building an audience, post stories on a fairly regular basis and you will build a good readership. If you tend to stick more towards one category you will build a readership a little faster-because they do not always follow you from one category to the next, but don't let that get in the way of spreading your stories around if you choose to.

Didn't really have a literary goal per se, I just wanted to try my hand at erotic writing and see what happened. Now that I've done this, I'd have to say I don't really have a goal in mind.

I write when the Muse lights a fire under my imagination, and right now I have several main characters that are occupying my creative endeavors. So if I were to have a goal, it would be to write until no one is interested in reading what I create

My current goal is to take over the #4 total productivity position. That's the only thing I can think of in terms of a goal for Lit. participation. In getting there, I'll just continue submitting stories as I do.

I'd say you have a shot at #3 as well, that person hasn't released a story since August last year and only a couple last year.

Samuel X....jeez short of him having some poor health I can't see him ever slowing down.

When I see that list what I find interesting is that with Freddie's colossal ego I'm amazed he keeps changing ID's. If he stayed with one, he's be chasing Sam X for number 1.

Might even be number two on the all time fav list-as I doubt anyone is catching silkstockinglover.

Safe to say I will never so much as sniff the most prolific list.

I could be on my way to #3 now if I submitted all I have banked, but, though it's a goal, it isn't an obsession, and I generally stick to the one-a-week submission unless I have a series or there's a contest I want to submit more than one to.

There's no catching one and two, though, and no, Freddie would not come anywhere close to Samuel X by combining his (some of what he wrote in earlier names was pulled back and reposted in his new name--something I wonder if the Survivor contest people looked into). There seems to be a lack of understanding just how far out there ahead Samuel X is and the pace he's maintaining.

I remember that when JBJ finally started posting stories, he was doing so at a pretty brisk pace, and you predicted he would overtake my file in three years. A look at the two lists will show that that just ain't gonna happen in this lifetime.

I think if Freddie put all of his together he'd outstrip my list, but then again maybe not. Just like him, I have stories under other account names here. I wouldn't slit my wrist if he did or try to make up excuses of why my list was, in fact, longer than his. It's not that big a deal. As I said, some goal to work on, but not arms and legs.

I don't think I predicted that, I do think I made a remark about him being like Samuel X as in writing very quickly, but with some pretty bad scores.

I give Sam X credit 2200+ stories and not one H, he has stories rated at 1, but doesn't give a rats ass, just keeps writing what he wants.

Yeah, clearing the head is at the top. All those voices are very distracting.

I had posted a few stories on another site way back when. To make a long story short, which is very hard for me, the site went pay in part and the free side was turned into a toxic dump.

Before I left someone turned me on to Lit. Been here every since. I started out to see how my writing stacked up against others. It went pretty good. Then I wrote a Non Erotic story that drew some interest from a mainstream editor.

Now Lit is my relax and have fun place. Writing erotica is easy when the juices are flowing and the muse is pumped up. Mainstream can be work. A lot more control than you might think. Even with eight books out, I still have to keep it within their guidelines although I push as hard as I can from time to time.

My editor laughs her ass off but then red pens a lot of it.

So, I've met my goals here and then some.

Earth day is the contest I hated most, I was one of the people lobbying to ditch it.

I only entered it once in 2014 and....won first place.

That right there was reason enough for the site to abolish it

2. To complete some of my unfinished and part posted stories. I completed some of the outstanding ones in the last 12 months but there are more that need finishing.

3. To write some more stories that make readers think 'What the Fuck was that?'. I have several already posted.

4. To annoy Loving Wives readers even more.

5. This one is impossible: To write and complete every story that is currently part-completed on my hard drive (That's over 500 separate stories). And last, but not least:

6. To write a plausible fetish story for the Adult Yahoo Groups that feature 'South Indian Women's Hairy and Sweaty Armpits'. The members of such groups number in the tens of thousands, but they haven't got an appropriate oggbashan story - yet...

Of all the goals posted, I find the last one on your list to be the most admirable.

Feedback is a huge plus. I think we all live for its virtual applause. Seeing a red "H" pop-up on a story feels good, too. Winning a contest? Nah, too high of a goal for me. Contests are great at gaining extra eyeballs on a story and maybe, by association, some of your other stories.

I came to Lit as a place to dump my writing experiments in hopes of getting some feedback to see if I was heading in the right direction or not. In general, even my lower scoring stories, seem to work for a good number of people.

Scores are funny things because when you read the comments, you'll often see voters are down voting because they didn't care for what happened in the story - not because it was poorly written or didn't keep their attention, but because they objected to a turn the story took.

Years ago I posted my stories on a popular journalling site (before such things became "blogs"). I made a few friends there and I had hoped to do the same thing on Lit. It took a while, but it did happen. I'm never sure if I have more enemies than friends, but that's okay, too.

Having a thick skin helps.
