Thoughts...

I just checked his moneybomb total at RandPaul.com & it's rising at a fast clip. Currently at $274,000.

It is beyond me how a "libertarian" can be so beloved of the Tea Party. Their hostility to biggummint is real, I'm sure, but it is not the kind of libertarianism I am familiar with from talking to self-ID'd libertarians, who see state and local government as just as potentially tyrannical as national/federal. Practically all libertarians are pro-choice on abortion, and I doubt many Tea Partiers are. Many libertarians want an open-borders policy on immigration, and nothing is surer to raise TP hackles.

Does he still want to cut foreign aid to Israel, or did Bibi's re-election make him flip-flop?

He'll make the primaries interesting and maybe tire out some Republican self-appointed contenders.

Salon.com.

The Nation.

Not that we have any way of stopping them but I hope the Republican primaries are more. . .sane this year than 2012. I mean it feels like the only real presidential race (since I've been old enough to vote) was Gore v Bush. And even that one I called way out in front.

Then you haven't been paying attention.

2004 was close enough that Edwards was clearly angry they were conceding within the night following E-Day and was quite close. (There's a case to be made that it was the second election in a row Bush stole, he just did it better the second time around.)

Also, on a popular vote front, both 2008 and 2012 were close. Obama is good at maximizing his EC totals but the popular votes were close in both cases--and they expected 2012 to be more like 2004 on the Democratic side. (Nobody was expecting a presidential nominee to fuck up general election cycle GOTV quite as bad as Romney did--not even the narcissists at OFA.)

YouTube’s copyright system has taken Rand Paul’s presidential announcement offline

If you're looking for Rand Paul's presidential announcement on YouTube, bad news. As of writing, the video has been blocked by the video streaming site, thanks to a copyright claim from Warner Music Group, as Vox's Andrew Prokop spotted.

...

During his announcement on Tuesday, Rand Paul entered and left to the song, "Shuttin' Detroit Down," as Business Insider notes. The song is a twangy lament about the state of the economy that dates back a few years; the copyright stamp on the YouTube video reads "(c) 2009 WMG." WMG, of course, is Warner Music Group.

Copyright law must be only of those things that Libertarians don't believe in right?

I wonder if at some point in his campaign he'll speak at Liberty University, founded by the man who said all those killed on 9-11 deserved to die.

Wonder if Randy got permission for the use at his conference.

Michele Bachmann didn't. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...chmann-to-stop-playing-american-girl-20110628

Sarah Palin didn't. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/05/mccain-palin-embrace-barracuda/

John McCain didn't. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...ith-gop-over-running-on-empty-ad-use-20090721

President Obama didn't.

Can we be honest and admit that in the real world nobody gives a shit if you use someones music without their permission full on 100% theft pirating is socially acceptable if not legal. 99.99% of Youtube videos don't have permission to use the music they are using either. Sure these guys and girls could have asked probably should have just to set an example but I'd bet that very, very few politicians ever ask and we only hear about it in the rare case where the musician gives a shit. Me? I'd be in a twitter war, go on all the talk shows, talk to some magazines but that's because as a pro-wrestling fan I believe that controversy creats cash.

Good 2 know real issues are being discussed

It's funny, because Hogan does not own the copyright to the song: the WWE does.

I'm kinda shocked Hogan doesn't own that one. He is one of those guys who owned a LOT more than most wrestlers. Like if you watch wrestling at all usually when someone jumps from one company to another they have to pick up a new name and new look because they generally don't own the rights to the character name or look.

Regardless I'd lay odds Obama didn't ask Vince or Stephanie or whoever the actual person in WWE that would give you permission. (Sure I know most of the names as a long time fan but I wouldn't have a clue who technically handles the business details.)

Vince is all that in the WWE, though he is letting Stephanie and Paul (HHH) run most of the on-camera stuff.

Hogan was created in the AWA before he came to the WWE/WWF, and Vince allowed him to keep it.

Back on topic: St Ronnie tried use Springsteen's "Born in the USA" without permission. Stupid people in his campaign didn't realize it was an ANTI war song!

Meh, Rand Paul talks a good Libertarian game, but if you want real libertarianism, you need someone like Gary Johnson. I refuse to commit to backing GOP candidates anymore. I've re-registered as an independent.

*sigh* Rand ain't getting any better at dealing with the press.

After offering a terse response to Lewis on how he plans to reach both the Republican base and more centrist voters, Paul abruptly shut down the conversation and walked away from the reporter, who continued to push for “a specifics answer.” As Lewis explained to the camera that he and his team had been asked to leave, someone turned off the lights.

Honestly he needs to stop pouting and just channel his rage. People love Chris Christie because he'll just call you a fucking moron and tell you to ask your next question.
