But it can take between 6 and 12 months if it does. So now I have to decide if I just stay bald for a while, or if I grow out the rest and try and figure a way to style it so it covers the 4cm bald spot which is right on the top of my head.
I'm leaning toward just staying hair-free, but I have a problem...
When I shaved it, I got a shaving rash. Not to mention that it took 5 razors to get the remaining hair off once it was clippered! (My hair is super-fine and it just clogged up the blades so bad they couldn't be cleaned.)

So, if I stay bald what are my options for removing the hair?
Can I use a hair removal cream?
Or should I go to a barber?
How do you guys who remove your head hair do it?

Questions that, as a woman, I never thought I'd ever have to ask!

It is much easier if you do it every single day. The hair is too short to clog the blades. I do it in the shower by feel and bang the blade on the shower wall to clear it between swipes and run it under the stream to keep clearing it.

A good disposable with a head that flexes in a curve makes nicks less likely. It gets closer if you go against the grain.

What about shaving rash? How long will it rash up once I start shaving daily?
Do you use a shave creme?

If you want to take the bald option ,I suggest an old fashioned safety razor as they can be taken apart to unclog them .
Alternatively an electric one although IMHO they do not give a close a shave .

I'm not too worried about not having a super-close shave. A tiny bit of stubble will still disguise the fact that I have a giant bald spot right in the middle of my head :(
I didn't think it would bother me so much, but now that my dark hair has grown a bit it is super-obvious and it shows up clearly.

Query is right about shaving in the shower, particularly the scalp.
Shaving creme is a lubricant. If you shave under running water it may not be necessary (I didn't need it when I was rocking the cue-ball look). I still shave my face in the shower and I use regular soap as a lather without any skin irritation.

A cold water rinse should decrease the likelihood of rash, though a decent skin moisturizer never hurts. With daily shaving rash becomes less likely, at least it was in my case.

So, I've decided to go to the barber and get some tips from them.
Depending on price, I may go a few times.

Maybe there's some super awesome shaver or whatnot that they can recommend.

I like neutragena shave gel, but it isn't available up here, so if I havent brought some back with me I find the nest best thing is just regular conditioner that people use after shampoo. Brand doesn't seem to matter. It is designed to be scalp friendly.

You should not be getting a rash from the shaving. If I let it go too long I sometimes do and that is a function of your clogged razor scratching your head. A fresh blade and you should be fine.

I read somewhere that blades dull as much from hard water deposits as from actual use. The solve is to rinse with rubbing alcohol. It works, plus it means my blade is slightly more sterile for the next use. I can get 4-5 shaves off of a blade. More and it starts to pull.

You can't do this next tip, obviously, but my beard is very course. For some reason if I will run it through the coarser stubble on my face it seems to "strop" the blades for my head.

I dunno brands you have available but Schick triple blades seem to work best for me.

Oh and I condition afterwards with Nivia aftershave balm. I think you will find the scent to be not overwhelmingly masculine, especially the sensitive version. Kinda of smells like clean with a hint of lime. Follow that up with the the gender neutral CK1 fragrance and we could be twins.

My advice is to just let the spot be and not irritate the skin around it which shaving everyday might do, so when the hair does grow back it's nice and strong. Usually after radiation your hair comes in a bit different, after chemo even more so.

The main thing is to keep the sun off it, even sun falling in through a window.

Being able to see it is not such a bad thing right now, you can see if it is healing okay or not.

Make up some hats for yourself, there are some good soft hat making books out there.

"Happy Hats & Cool Caps: To Sew for the Whole Family" by by Anne-Mette Hermansen and Tina Elnef is a good entry level hat book. The Afghan hat out of a nice linen makes a good indoor hat and it should float above the spot if it's dead center on the top of your head.

I don't have to shave over the spot itself as that's completely bald, so I shouldn't end up irritating that area. And I would layer it with pawpaw ointment before I do it to protect the radiated skin from shaving chemicals, etc.
I will get my son to take a pic later so you can see what I mean about the spot size and location....

Geezus, wanker...

...is there truly no depth you won't sink to for just another bite of simple, pathetic attention?
