Why is it so hard for some people to say what they mean? Over the past few weeks in my life, I've ran into this repeatedly. It's like a lesson trying to be driven home, but what is the lesson? Most people don't mean what they say? It's disconcerting at best and irks me at worse. Why lie? Why not just say nothing or here's a novel concept tell the truth. I prefer blunt people, I'm too tired to deal with interpreting something to find the truth, it's like I'm panning for gold. Seems all I get is fool's gold.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Show us your tits! (Well I do mean that!) Seriously, though, I know what you are saying and no you are not alone. I don't know if it takes a certain maturity some people don't have??? Why fib?? Tell the truth and be done with it. Sorry you had a bad couple weeks birdy!!

You have to buy me dinner first or get me really really really drunk.

Thanks for that TH, bad things always seem to travel in packs.:rose:

i have the problem of being too blunt at times.

no filter syndrome.

we keep things simple and straight around here.

In my book, there is no such thing as too blunt, sometimes the wording can be askew and seem rude but I'd rather have tactless and blunt over trying to figure out what someone really means. It gets so frustrating sometimes, it makes me want to punch things.

I can understand some lies. I don't agree with them, but I understand why someone would lie to make themselves look better.

I do think there is such a thing as being too blunt. Too often, being "real" is an excuse for someone to just be mean.

I don't think you have to be mean to tell the truth. It's in how you word it.
People lying to make themselves look better end up looking like total numpties when they get caught out. I don't see the point in it.

I prefer someone to be upfront and honest.

The truth isn't always pretty, but yes some people use it to dig at someone. That's not being truthful, it's being spiteful. That's not what I'm talking about.

I learned (painfully) NOT to say what I mean. It only gets me in trouble with somebody, maybe many somebodies. Being straightforward has caused me a lot of heartache.

Lying is a problem too -- gotta remember the lies or it all goes to shit. Best not to say anything. (Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.) Nod and grunt without commitment. Give a vague smile.

And I've learned (painfully) not to hold opinions. Opinions never did me any good. Think about it -- what have your opinions ever gained you? I will teach my grandkids to be sneaky, manipulative little bastards. Then they can rule the world.

Truth does have its perils, no doubt but the alternative sucks more. And if you lose love because of the truth, then it what was it based on?

I think some people are afraid of how people will react if someone finds out the truth about them. I admit, I'm not always upfront with people and I even lie about some parts of me because when I've told the truth, the reaction is always negative.

You shouldn't have to lie to anyone about yourself. If they are negative toward you that's their issue, not yours. We can't control what other people say or do but we sure as hell can tell them to jog on if they're being rude or unkind. It's not always easy to look within yourself sometimes if you don't like what you see. But I believe in being true to myself. You're only fooling yourself if you lie.

Good advice, but easier said than done sometimes. :)

I like it when people say "I tried to call you...."

I always say "Fingers became paralyzed en route to the telephone?"

What if I'm lying all the time... to myself?

*cues up the song "Everybody Hurts" and stares into the mirror while a single tear rolls down my cheek*

Do you touch yourself while doing it, and do you mean it if you do?
