Have you seen them both in Irreversible? One of the hardest films I've ever watched. I have it on dvd but can't bring myself to watch again. Not that any rape scene is a laugh but that was fucking horrific.

YES. That scene is gut-wrenching. I really like Gaspar Noe, but he delights in audience agony - nurturing that with uncomfortable scenes scored with a soundtrack intentionally created to cause viewer discomfort. He (like Michael Haneke, who I also adore) makes brilliant movies which are often frustrating and/or painful to view (i.e. Funny Games - I literally threw things at our TV screen, the ending angered me so).
