The truth is now coming out, Cyril Smith was a Paedophile, this fact was known, and covered up by the "establishment", how many more are there in the upper echelons of society, those well known faces that are still alive. The excuse that the files cannot be found, or have somehow been misplaced will no longer wash, these scum must be hunted down and made to pay for their crimes.
There are those who would have us believe that there was a ring of offenders in Westminster, Bob Boothby is now known to be at it, it seems strange to me that their names come to light only after their death. How many more are KNOWN but still alive and protected by the "establishment",
Who was this "senior officer" who demanded that investigating officers hand over all their files and evidence and then vanished with it, I believe that he must be found.
The seriousness of these offences cannot be overstated, young boys died at the hands of these criminals, the time of cover ups is over, the light of justice must be shone squarely at these people, and they must be brought to book.
This investigation must begin in earnest at once, The buck stops with The Commissioner of Police,B.H.Howe now more excuses no more lost files, find out who that "senior officer" was, that's a good place to start, and then finish the job.

Thanks. It's nice to have some idea what someone is ranting about here. The place is surrealistic enough already.

It never ceases to amaze me

Did they? Hadn't heard that.

how many US-based Lit members expect those from other countries to know the minutiae of US matters, but refuse to understand that a majority of Lit members are NOT from the USA.

If disgracefully belated UK efforts to uncover organised paedophile rings in the English (not UK) establishment are successful, I hope they will put the fear of death into such paedophiles everywhere.

Not me. That doesn't mean I knew what the OP was talking about without some context put to it.

Back to the OP.

The allegations are just that - allegations. Some of the statements are based on third party stories 'Someone told me that...'. That is particularly true about the deaths.

While there is evidence that some establishment people were involved in paedophilia, some of it relates to acts that would now be legal i.e. consensual gay sex with 16 and 17 year olds.

How much truth is there in the allegations? It depends whether evidence exists that is admissible in a court. The length of time that has elapsed since some of the offences are said to have occurred make them very difficult to prove, and some of those accused are dead.

There is a long way to go before the allegations can be proved or disproved.

What is good news is that the claims of abuse are being investigated.

What is bad news is that the people accused by name have no possibility of defending themselves from the allegations until a court case starts. If the allegations about an individual turn out to be false, then that person's reputation and life will have been severely damaged. The falsely accused have no means of redress for the damage.

Just out of curiosity, is there such thing as a British Man-Boy Love Association?

I don't know.

I do know that the Ancient Greeks were very keen on it.

Indeed. Pederasty was, in fact, the only socially acceptable form of homosexuality (between adults it was considered ridiculous). Pederasty was a quasi-official educational institution -- the erastes was expected to be mentor and role model to the eramenos. In Sparta, every citizen boy was turned out to live in the wild for a period and encouraged to survive by stealing (training for survival if stranded in enemy territory). If caught, he was flogged -- not for theft, but for stupidity -- and if he cried out, his lover was fined for failure to teach him better courage.

Rich and powerful men learn that they can usually satisfy their sex drives. Occasionally they cross the line.

If I was rich and powerful I would leave boys alone.

I might be tempted by underage girls who took the initiative with me.

I would not take the initiative with them, however. I would certainly not coerce them in any way.
