Rahall said, "The Speaker had met with President Bush in the halls of the U.S. Capitol just the day before we left and mentioned to him that we were going to Syria. No response at all from the President."
Despite the White House's public rhetoric that the trip was a "bad idea," President Bush "did not tell her not to go, nor did the State Department tell us not to go," Rahall said. "The State Department was certainly aware of our traveling to Syria and our full itinerary. And there were State Department officials in every meeting that we had on this codel. So that is all hogwash as far as I'm concerned."

I'd love to see him on one of the mainstream media Sunday talk shows. He has no trouble using words like "baloney" and "hogwash" when necessary.

Get real, read the Constitution. There is a separation of powers, Congress cannot have it's own foreign policy. The Logan Act has been around since 1799 and was revised in 1994.

Politicians do not have to obey the law. They can do any damn thing they want to and tell the people to get fucked. That goes for both parties. There isn't a shortage of criminals in either party.

Totally agree. It's a shame we're so concerned with this now.. How long ago was it? Much bigger issues need solving.
 
In no time in the history of man have the rich of politically connected had to follow laws and according to everything I've read this is a law that nobody has EVER truly used and I'm sure we could find tons of cases. What exactly constitutes speaking to a leader on behalf of America? I mean did Dennis Rodman break this law a few years back?

Pelosi thread 2007 I didn't comment in that thread, it seems that the general consensus was she was wrong, she fucked up and nobody cares.

Also a of questioning on what specifically the law means in real terms. Which is what I expect will happen this time. I'd bet money that Obama mentions this maybe in passing, no official action will be taken and by Monday it will be a forgotten topic.
