I hope you guys will excuse a limey giving you some observations on one of your presidential candidates, but as a friend of the US I feel I should.
So far we have had two presidents from the Bush family, and you are now talking of electing a third, may I offer you some observations from a distance .
From over here it would seem that George Bush senior had a fair handle on things, by this I mean foreign policy, this is all us over here can use to place a value on his work. From what we saw from a distance he seemed like a guy with a fair grasp of the situation. On the other hand his son GW Bush appeared to be a complete idiot the F*** ups were the stuff of legend, he was laughed at over here, I felt sorry for you guys if that's the best you can do as a leader. This brings me to the point, is it really wise to dig into the Bush lucky dip again, so far you,ve had one prize worth something, and one rubber dog turd, think carefully before you buy another ticket there maybe a better barrel around somewhere.
I hope that you understand my concern, if you elect another GW type idiot, think of the impact it will have on us.

The problem is, Jeb is the only Republican now contending who just might possibly be qualified to be president. The rest are disqualified by stupidity, insanity, pure evil, or some combination.

George Bush had the benefit of eight years in the Reagan admin before he took the big chair. The only Republican with that level of experience now is Dick Cheney, who would be disqualified for reasons listed above.

If a person is qualified and experienced enough to run for president they will not be allowed to run.
For what is supposed to be the most important job in the U.S. we usually pick the least qualified and least experienced.

disqualification

You say that people cannot be elected if they are insane stupid or evil, we it could be suggested that GW qualified on two counts and still got into office.

Well, I meant "disqualified from serious consideration by any rational voter."

Which is not the same thing as "unelectable."

The problem still remains.

We need someone to vote for from SOME party that we do not have to hold our nose when we do it!

LOL good luck getting someone RW enough for you....they are totally un-electable.

Actually to my surprise when I took the last two surveys, on the graph I was more Liberal than conservative and more left-winged than right viewed from the middle:eek:

Maybe I misunderstood the Questions.

With the exception of Obama, extremists of any party are unelectable. That's been proven repeatedly.
Of course Obama's an exception. He's a centrist. You and most of the Republican party just refuse to notice.

The Bushes aren't a cookie cutter dynasty in the same way the Kennedys were. George Senior didn't tightly train his sons like Joe did his. George Senior did just fine and had probably more and varied experience in government than most other presidents. Jeb went his own route and has significantly more government leadership training than George the Lesser had. I think he's about the most believable candidate the Republicans can put forward if they want to get out of the "just say no" or "let's mobilize the fear and hate" modes. The biggest questions is do they? Or do they want to just shoot themselves in the feet again?

Jeb cant win because we conservatives wont vote for him. I keep saying, he has all the money and no one to help him spend it. Scott Walker will win the nomination, because he knows how to fuck Democrats.

I'm so delighted to see you post this--since all of your political prognostications forever have been wrong. :D

Good luck.
Such a person, if one does exist, would not be allowed to run for dog catcher.
Voters of the republican or democrat party do not have to hold their nose when they vote. They inhale deeply of the sickening rotten smell.

By that do you mean a pol with a high standard of personal ethics and integrity, or a pol whose politics align with yours?

Voters in the States pretty much get the candidates that have made it through the slice and dice gauntlet that the voters themselves have created and exercised.

Don't forget Bush 41 was also Director of the CIA.
Spies are rarely afforded the luxury of letting ideology trump reality, and that includes political appointees sent to run spy agencies.

I worked for him there. He was the ultimate government bureaucrat--in all of his positions. He wasn't a political appointee to the CIA post, by the way. He was a seasoned government bureaucrat, a seasoned department head being moved to another department to bridge the gap between in-house power and political policy. And as I noted earlier, he's been pretty much hands off on his sons. George Junior knuckled under to ideologues as his father never did (and if George Junior hadn't, he probably would never have been president--certainly not for two terms). Jeb doesn't knuckle under in that way. He also, though, is more political than George Senior ever was. A Bush dynasty just isn't the same thing as a Kennedy dynasty.

Much as I admire Senior for his career in public service, I really want to get away from an American Oligarchy.

Please- no more Clintons and Bushes.

Do the democrats have anybody with national name recognition to put forward as president who isn't Hillary or Kerry?

Warren, but she keeps saying she doesn't want it. Martin O'Malley, just finishing two terms as Governor of Maryland, is considering a run, but hasn't national name recognition (yet).

There. Warren. That's legitimate in terms of qualification and name recognition.

Do Biden and Cuomo have cold feet?
