Good evening all, although I haven't been posting actively I have been following the forum and others with interest.
Today I had to post, in the hope that someone who knew him well may read this. My constant companion, faithful four-legged friend went to meet his maker.

Major Tom, that was his name, a large 50 kg black Labrador who rarely left my side and right now there is a great hole In my heart and in my home..

You have my sincere sympathies. We have just gone through the same ordeal in our house, having lost our dear furry 70 lb. companion of 9 years. The house seems so empty with the joy of his presence suddenly gone.
 
Sadly, one of the truths of having pets (save for parrots perhaps) is knowing you will outlive them and have to say goodbye someday. I miss my two previous furry pals, but the current one is a wonderful companion. I've always adopted another after a suitable mourning period - it honors the memory of the previous pet and saves 2 lives (the one you adopt and the one you make room for)

That predatory angle is unfortunately true across all boards, I think: I fear it's just more notable here because the women are actively asking for someone strong and (dare I say it) controlling in their life.

Yes, lots of lurkers watch this thread and swoop in when they see a new face. Some new folks are naive in their comments so the lurker assumes this invites their messages. I chuckle when I see someone posting suggestively with a low post count. This thread is meant more as a discussion or support place as opposed to a personals section. :)
