How Would You Fix Obamacare?

IRL few are turned away from emergency care. If you go to the ER they'll see you, and that's because ER's get a bag of money to treat indigent patients. Its the deal they make to get the money. The ER keeps the whole bag of money regardless of how many poor people they treat. So they are compensated, more or less.

If I was running healthcare every American would get Bronze coverage for free, that is, acute care (ER), well-person maintenance (routine medical and dental and prescriptions), and catastrophic/chronic care. All above basic care the patient is on her own. Fund it with cigarette and other sin taxes.

Why would I fix it?

All the right people here cannot heap enough praise upon how it saves them money...

There is a hospital two blocks from my business. It's the city's oldest hospital, which means it is in an urban neighborhood of businesses and residences. The ER will close at the end of March because it is costing the "not for profit" hospital corporation $24 million dollars per year to operate. They say this is because of unreimbursed expenses by uninsured and indigent patients. They do not get a "bag of money." They have asked the state government for some kind of assistance, but our Republican Governor is running for President and can't be seen as soft on poor people.

I don't know where you get the idea of this bag of money, but it's probably the same place you get most of your facts.

You don't fix Obamacare because it is a tax and it works just fine as a tax, it was never ever about healthcare and until that is understood it will be around to ruin all our lives.

Repeal it like Prohibition and then lets kill even more of the Progressive Nanny State attacks on our freedoms.

[voice=new age Liberal] Oh you just hate the Social Safety net. You want old people to go without medications, you want poor people to starve and you don't want to have children educated.

Even if one assumes this is true about the "bag of money" (it's more like a change purse), where do you suppose this money comes from?

"Why are you here?"

"To get some money."

"What kind of money?"

"Obama money."

"Where's it coming from?

"Obama."

"And where did Obama get it?"

"I don't know... his stash, I don't know. I don't know where he got it from, but he's givin' it t'us to help us. We love him. That's why we voted for him... Obama! Obama!"

;) ;)

Where are all of these "itinerants" coming from?

Don't they know they are under government mandate to have insurance?

I wouldn't fix it. I'd kill it. Deader than a doorknob. Repeal it 100%. Then institute Medicare for all. Of course it won't happen. Too many fingers in the pie for anything sensible to happen. We're stuck with this pile of shit, thanks to John Roberts.

No one's children should suffer or die for your warped ideological purity.

No one's grandmother should be forced to eat cat food to satisfy some wretched Ayn Rand inspired philosophy.

You and everything you stand for are a blight upon America.

Says the fat bald guy that wishes the children of people he disagrees with to die in a fire.

Different places fund indigent care in different ways. In this state ER's get a bag of money. In some places the money comes from other sources. And some 'emergency rooms' aren't emergency rooms. Compensation amounts vary from state to state. And I know of ER's that don't validate or check ability to pay. Its absurd to let a bonafide ER go bankrupt, so I question the claim BRONZEAGE makes. Maybe its a free clinic. I've read about hospital resident MDs bitching about doing ER on-call for no extra pay. My state usta do that, I got $1 an hour for on-call and comp time if the phone rang.

Stop exaggerating. I'm not fat, and the "die in a fire" wish is a perfectly acceptable Jewish insult that I reserve exclusively for my Jewish buddy Miles. You can look it up.

Johnson, you could use some corrective surgery yourself. You've been talking out of your ass.

Question away.

Baton Rouge General to close its Mid City emergency room

“We’ve left no stone unturned as we’ve sought solutions that would allow us to keep the Mid City ER open,” said Baton Rouge General President and CEO Mark Slyter. “Though closing Mid City ER doors, the care and commitment to our Mid City community remains strong.”

The surprise announcement came in a news release issued Tuesday morning.

The General’s board of directors had voted last August to close the emergency room in November, a casualty of growing red ink associated with uninsured patients entering its doors.

Anymore questions?

If a hospital accepts Medicare reimbursement is prohibited by law from validating ability to pay in the emergency room. You can thank Ronald Reagan's EMTALA act of 1986.
