SAN DIEGO (AP) — Federal authorities have seized more than 15 tons of marijuana in a near-record bust at a border crossing in Southern California.

The Los Angeles Times reports Saturday that more than 1,200 packages of marijuana valued at nearly $19 million were seized this week from a truck-trailer carrying mattresses and cushions at the Otay Mesa border crossing.

Authorities arrested the truck's 46-year-old driver and seized the vehicle late Thursday.

The newspaper says the seizure was the second-largest in a single incident at a U.S. border crossing, trailing a more than 35,000-pound bust in 2013.

You seize fifteen tons, and what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
Saint Peter ought to post about now.

Saint Peter lives in Colorado and wonders why anybody would bother trucking that shit up from Mexico.

I'm curious, do they still value seizures the way they did in the 60's and 70's, by calculating how many joints they could make from what was seized, then multiplying that by how much a single joint would sell for? Ignoring the fact that few people bought pot by a single joint, but it does make the "valued at" number much larger.

It is still significantly inflated but not the degree it once was. There is a standard value assigned to the weight dependent on what phase of production it's in when seized. (Whole plant vs dried & ready to toke). The value assigned does not account for quality.

Then let's fuckin' light that shit up!

Yea...19mil is funny esp at that large of a volume. I mean if you broke it down into 1/4's and peddled them all out, I could see 19mil. Sure it's garbage weed but that's a fuck load of garbage weed. But we are talking bulk here, a 30,000 lb shipment? LMFAO!! Ain't no fucking 19 million, that shit is a joke meant to give LEO's and vettemans a warm fuzzy.

Then let's fuckin' light that shit up!

Don't do it!! It's not worth it!! Smoke american/euro/Canadian bud, organic if you can....but say no to nasty mexibuds!!! They grow that shit in like junk yards, land fills and pour all kinds of horrifying shit on their plants. I've seen a lot of grows pretty much from BC all the way to the Amazon and south of the border maybe 3 or 4 commercial ops looked like they were being run by someone with SOME ethics/standards.

The worst shit north of the border is the same monsanto style round up toxic shit all the other crops are grown in. No need to add junk yard/land fill juice into the mix.

They were on their way to Denver. A pot laundering scheme.

LOL CO/WA taxes are so high and regulations so tight assed...they are still loosing so much money....CA made more off CO this year than CO did, LMFAO@ CO!!! And WA? They are sitting on 22 tons right now that's just going stale on the shelf. WA can't buy enough cali bud...LMFAO@WA TEW!!!

Hope AK and OR learn and do it better.....lots of folks want this to work to end all the bullshit.

Though I hope AK still has a thunderfuck cut running around up there, it's practically a legend in CA that hasn't been seen in many moons. Seeds/cuttings are highly sought after and the loss of such a strain would give me a great big sadz. :( It would be like OG Kush or original blueberry going extinct, it's horrifying thought I know.

So the point...yea we are there now, Thor IDK and am not asking about any activity with regard to cultivation of cannabis you may or may not have any knowledge of. BUT!! If you just happen to know anyone growing Alaskan/Matanuska thunderfuck you tell em' to stay the course!!! Keep on with that genetic jewel, Cali and the rest of the cannabis community (esp the connoisseurs who have had the absolute pleasure) are rooting for the Alaskan legend to make it!!

WE WANT THE THUNDERFUCK!!!

There was in interesting discussion on Reddit yesterday about the politics of marijuana and law enforcement in Colorado post-legalization.

There were quite a few cops discussing that they still bust underage kids for driving and smoking a joint, but it hasn't increased appreciably. They said adults smoking and driving is basically non-existent.

The interesting takeaway is how the guys who dealt in volume pot back in the prohibition days are hurting. They've tried opening their own "legal" stores (with forged paperwork) selling Mexican ditch weed at cut-rate prices, but so far they aren't gaining traction, Colorado pot fiends gravitate towards the "gourmet" stuff.

And the state is making a shedload of $$$ in taxes off it.

It's true...every bit of what you say.

But there is a market for all of it. CA/Co/Indoor weed is fucking expensive....broke ass trailer park urchins and hood rats alike still buy plenty of doo doo mexican brick weed as the cheap option.

You're right about those guys who used to control the market. They are sucking...totally sucking...they have largely turned to other black market activities, human trafficking, meth/coke/heroine, scamming etc. It's kinda whack a molish with these fuckin' roaches but at least they don't control the weed market anymore.

They could be making so much more....I'm all for taxing it, but Jesus fucking Christ they are strangling the industry straight the fuck to death in WA. They are sitting on tons of it....no sales....meanwhile big rigs by the fleet load are taking CA weed up there by the shit ton and it's pissing in a lot of folks post toasties.

CO isn't as bad but their market is about to stagnate now that the sparkle of legalization has faded a bit.

CA made more money off of WA/CO legalization than either of those states did....they need to tone it down just a smidgen with the obnoxious taxation. The way they treat it you would have thought it was something dangerous that incurs huge costs upon society....like a big mac. Oh wait...

Yeah I was just doing the math on it. You'd have to get $50 and 1/8 to net that much.

Aside from political reasons for the Feds to tread lightly in an area that State sovereignty actually could be upheld, how are the feds to enforce the controlled substances act in all 50 states without the cooperation of the locals, as coerced by forfeiture spoils?

If it is legal in a State, and the locals choose to assist the feds in contravention of state law, how is that forfeiture sharing going to work?

And the state is making a shedload of $$$ in taxes off it.

Taxes on recreational marijuana netted $44 million for Colorado during the last calendar year, according to new figures released this week.

... Between a 15 percent excise tax and a 10 percent sales tax – and, in some locales, city fees – Coloradans intially expected to bring in $67 million. Now, according to the newest figures, the first year of pot sales returned only around two-thirds of what was anticipated.

“Everyone who thinks Colorado’s rollin’ in the dough because of marijuana? That’s not true,” state Sen. Pat Steadman (D-Denver), one of the legislature’s main budget writers, told the Associated Press this week.

Maybe you should just stick to jerking your America's humongous prison population is because of victimless drug crimes rant, eh seainepoo...

...you're really not good at disingenuously working two myths at a time.
