They already have, it's called Aussie rules; it derives from Gaelic (Irish) football which essentially is total mayhem. Two teams, 18 on each side play on a pitch about 170 metres long and try to kick a ball between what looks like Rugby or NFL posts.

The ball can be either carried or kicked, it's violent with very little bad temper. Action is more or less continuous with little 'in game' involvement from coaches.

The game is so popular it can attract crowds of 60,000 to 80,000 on a wet Sunday afternoon, and because of the size of the pitches it has led to every Australian city having one or two stadia which can hold 100,000 plus fans.

The players all wear tight shorts - dunno why.
