This is a spin off of
This thread.
The spokes people for the new 'jobs for jihadists' mantra are starting to mouth the phrase "new Marshall Plan." Really? Are they ignorant of history or do they think we are?
Let's start with a general observation, actually a basic fact. NO business is going to invest in ANY nation that does not have a stable government. It's just that simple, they aren't going to piss the investors money away. And no business investment means no jobs.
Looking back at the original Marshall Plan and why it worked. It worked because the enemy, the Axis powers, were thoroughly defeated. Any means of organized resistance were crushed. Further, government stability was guaranteed by the presence of large armies of occupation. Full control of the occupied nations political and civil future was firmly established. Private industry could safely invest in the rebuilding of those nations infrastructure and industry. And this required a long term commitment of occupying forces.
Our best chance of achieving anything resembling a Marshall Plan in the Middle East was in Iraq and that opportunity was pissed away when the occupying forces were withdrawn. The results of that decision are in the news daily.
So my fellow Litizen's, exactly how is this jobs program going to be implemented? Exactly how does one go about building a vibrant and growing economy with a vibrant and growing jobs market in nations with unstable governments and the inability to control their own territory?
Surely you folks out there that think that jobs are the answer to jihad have some ideas as to how this is going to be done. So let's hear those ideas.
