Do you celebrate or do anything special on Valentine's Day?

I have not treated that day as a special day since I was in College. I really just think of it as a Hallmark Holiday. I do, however, buy chocolate for myself. It's my weakness.

Nah. All those days and holidays are meaningless to me. I do love Easter though.

Same. I Love Christmas, too. Not the whole retail part of it but getting together with aunts and uncles and relatives. It's always warm and fuzzy sprinkled with a healthy dose of dysfunction.

Easter just makes me happy. Daffodils, biting the heads off chocolate rabbits and men nailed to crosses.

No, really.

I usually send out Valentines to friends so they wouldn't be sad and of course my main squeeze but I don't tend to do anything special unless I am invited out.

For the past couple years, a couple I bought together has been having a valentine dinner, so I go there. Usually about 20 people, couples or not show up, kids too!

Last year I went to the dinner although I couldn't eat anything, literally, just to hang out with my friends, some come down from up north for it, and my friend's mom smokes salmon. Then I went home and we took a break from 24 to watch "princess bride."

This year I am going to an exhibit opening in the morning, have a lunch date (if I can eat) and then the dinner. Other than inaugurating my fake fur in the morning, nothing else exciting will be happening.

I'm a very low key holiday celebrator. Valentine's day is barely a blip on my radar. After Valentine's day chocolate sales rate higher.

Look! Chocolates!!

Put them in a strategic spot.

I detest Hallmark holidays. All of the marketing bothers me, too. I'm a romantic, but not on Valentine's Day.

Yes! I was talking about this just today with a friend. I'd rather get flowers or have a romantic dinner on a spontaneous day rather than on an *assigned* day. It means more to me when it's random.

It's right up there with Mothers, Fathers, and Secretary's Day.

Every year I make a resolution to send more cards to ppl. Birthday, Thinking about you, get well....blah blah blah. I usually break that resolution by the end of January.

i like chocolate. getting the midgets to wrote out their cards for class. that's about it. also, live plants are so much better than cut flowers.

of course i celebrate. i beat and behead a catholic every february 14th like clockwork unless i can't find one and then i just use an anglican because, fuck it, close enough. some years i do two if i'm feeling a bit down.

I was thinking about that, Neci. The cards you passed out as kids in the classroom. Making those homemade card boxes and sitting them on your desk. Saving the special card for the boy you had a crush on. It's a great holiday for kids.

I sell out to ecards as a fall back. http://www.jacquielawson.com

Some years I make them all the annual ones out in January, schedule them and then they go out through the year. I can edit them or cancel them if I wish. I usually do change them or edit them but if I forget, no one is without a card.

Most people I also have on my google calendar with reminders and then there is Facebook.

I prefer to hand make things and cards but it doesn't always happen, so it's a back up.

I was properly brought up to do these things but now I sometimes even forget bread and butter thank you notes  though I do always thank them as I am leaving. I really need to go back to being more civilized. :rose:

We give each other cards and a little something. I got him some chocolate turtles with cashews. We usually go out to dinner but we will probably wait. Dinner on a Saturday Night that is Valentine's Day will be crazy busy.
