I wonder if the Jordian pilot was Circassian? I hadn't really considered the poking the bear aspect of this, but ISIS might have picked the wrong fight.

See if rational wikki knows anything about Circassians in Turkey and Jordan and why they are there.

So, what's that got to do with "poking the bear"? You mean Russia might get involved just because a Circassian was burned alive? I can't see it.

Nothing to do with Russia. Circassians have not been Russian for a century and a half. They were forced to convert to Islam in 1700. When they were driven out they ended up as highly trusted soldiers and guards for the ottoman empire. The Jordanian royal family have used them as personal bodyguards and the country's military leaders for generations. There are probably 100K in Jordan and 1-2 million of them in turkey. They are Muslim but not Arab. They are renowned for their courage and fighting skill.

Anyway, I think ISIS has already invited the trouble regardless of whether the pilot was Circassian or not -- by provoking that badass of a king. He's furious at what they did to one of his men.

China has its own Muslim minority, including the Uyghurs (Central Asian Turks) of Xingjiang, some of whom aspire to secede; they probably don't like anything anywhere that stirs up trouble among Muslims, it might give their Muslims ideas.
