I'm not super romantic, but part of me likes the idea that everyone has a soul mate.

Have you ever heard the story of the souls?

The story is that the souls roamed the world and they were always very happy and content. The world was a perfect place. One day, the gods were looking down upon the souls and became angry at the souls happiness. The gods felt that they weren't needed anymore and had no place in the world.

So, the gods reached down, captured the souls, tore them in two and then sprinkled them back over the world.

... and then this is when the search began for the other half of our soul.

If indeed the gods are responsible for tearing our souls to itty bitty pieces and scattering them like seeds to the four winds, then I'm personally launching a legal action against these reckless supreme beings!

Honestly I never believed in such nonsense as soul mates, indeed any deep passionate connection with someone. Sure I understood love and moments of lust but anything more was the stuff of full technicolor Hollywood. That changed for me about five years back when I did meet someone. The notion you could look into another's eyes and have everything else in the world bleed away into oblivion. The hunger to devour another and see your desire reflected back in their eyes. For the brief glimpse of them in a crowd sends your pulse racing and every moment of the day your mind is fixated on them.

I still don't know if soul mates exist but I would say for me that's the closest definition. And if you don't mind I intend to go off and do something more manly, I don't know, drink beer and flex my non existent muscles.

Interesting story, I hadn't heard it before.

I do believe in soul mates. I married mine. Yes, I play around on Lit for fun but they are play mates. She's a great wife and probably better than me. And if I lost her I would be losing a soul mate. No everyone finds theirs, but some do.

Ever hear stories of the old couples that have been married 60+ years and one dies and then the surviver dies hours or a few days after. Yep, soul mates exist.

Your story is nice and those stories about people that have been married for many years and die hours apart get me every time!

I've heard at least two variations of this myth. It's interesting to contemplate. I'll share one because I found it to be sort of humorous.

Dogs all over the world assembled together to discuss some important topic that related to dog-kind. A proviso was the dogs, to attended, had to check their assholes at the door--- sort of like how we might check our coat.

Unfortunately, a tornado blew through the assembly and mixed all of the assholes up. There wasn't an easy way of identifying which asshole belonged to what dog. So the assembly of dogs gave up and just attached what was available at the time and went back home. Ever since, a dog, in an attempt to find what was lost, will sniff the behind of another dog when they first meet.

I've met a few people that I wish would have checked their asshole at the door.

Certainly an interesting story. Have you found yours?

Since humans do not posess a soul, the idea of a "soul mate" seems like a thought/emotion experiment designed to drive people insane.

There are many "pretty lies" in the world that ultimately hurt us.

I believe the idea that there is one and only one person for us in this life to be one of them.

There is no perfect but if we work & strive & understand ourselves and each other there is 'close enough'.

The notion of love as a choice is by far more beatiful to me.
