If you could visit anywhere for the cuisine?

If you could go anywhere in the world just to visit and sight-see with your stomach and your tongue, where would you go?

I'd go back to Italy. Sardinia and Sicily is where I went to visit family. And now I am forever haunted by the taste of a real panini.

Sorry, don't have any real photos but I remember the bread of the sandwich being like that, with dimples in it from the breadmaker's fingers and salted.

Or how about quattro formaggi rigatoni(I forget the actual name; called my cousin and he gave me that).

That's not an actual picture either, sorry. But looked like that, just real fucking cheese and thick and gooey and rich.

I was craving things this morning and it spiraled out of hand. Let's share this misery together.
 
I'd go to Japan..... I remember the food being really varied and extraordinarily well-prepared. They know how to put flavours together to maximise your taste experience!
Plus it's always so damn pretty on the plate/bowl. Eating starts with the eyes!

Anywhere but England. And no where that monkey brains are popular.

I think that is so 'as it used to be'. I feel the standard and the variety of cuisine in the UK has leapfrogged many other nations in recent years. For a global feast of all the varieties possible you don't have to leave London.

I'm not saying that we have eradicated the mediocre which British cooking used to be. But in cities and large towns there are now plenty of exceptionally delightful good meals to be had, and quite a number of surprises out in little hidden away places too. It's a whole new side of England, and Scotland too - of Wales and Northern Ireland I have no recent experience.

We have for decades loved holidaying in France and I did some growing up in Switzerland. When we visit these days we feel as if good old England has 'leapfrogged' them in exploring quality and variety and individuality and panache.

I watched a documentary just yesterday about the varieties of fish which don't 'fillet' easily, which are exported from UK to continental Europe where folk are more at ease about a whole fish presented on their plate. So in that regard we still have some catching up to do from our bland and boring past.

Fish cooked on the bone has a much better flavour.

I was skinning catfish with my dad when I was 5. Not a problem for me. French food is supposed to be good but I don't think I could take the abuse.

Having been to pretty much all of Asia except Vietnam, if you go, only eat the more fancy restaurants that cater to tourists. And avoid the fish.. you seen where they catch the majority of it, you'd know why.. Exception to the rule is Japan.They have extraordinary health code for any eating establishment. Biggest drawback to Japan is the price.. spendy place that..
I would do Italy and the Med for food.. :cool:
 
The North of England. Steak and Kidney pudding, chips fried in real fat, mushy peas. Doorsteps of proper bread with real butter.

That's the first thing I've read on here that's made me wanna rub one out since DesireeEssentials posted that orange e-numbers buffet thing.

The banchan spreads alone in most family/group dinners is a almost a meal for three days!

Oh, you can in Rules. They still serve it with oysters like it used to be, and real suet. And you can have it with draught Guinness, none of the chilled nonsense, served in a pewter tankard. Pricey, mind, but fantastic. Love and money.
