....and I'm talking say, major tax mishap that resulted in losing your home, bank accounts being frozen - or serious accident resulting in needing round-the-clock care, fundraising needed for enormous medical bills....
...how many people would stand up to help you?

How many can you count on in a real crisis?

I'm very lucky, in that if something were to happen along those lines, I have about 18-20 people who would drop everything to come to my aid both physically and financially.

I have no one I could rely on. The last person I trusted left me with quite a bit of debt. I do have people who like me but they are broker than me.

The taxes are a non issue, I have accountants for that.

Accident or illness, I pay for insurance for critical care. I also have loyal, generous family and friends.

What about helping in a non-financial way?

This subject came up at BabyMum today..... a place I volunteer at for teen Mums, teaching budgeting, cooking, etc.
We have a kind of forum session after, and one of the young Mums has just had a very high dependency baby who will need care and physio every single day for the next x years.

Whatever happened with the identity theft peeps?

Still under investigation.
Both of the ABN's have been cancelled at this point, so I just have to wait till the tax office contacts me.

I do wonder how the real estate business in Victoria is going, given that they have had their ABN cancelled!

I hope all that works out.

I would like to think that anyone I'm decide to be around will. Because I will be there for them all. I pride myself on being loyal so I know I will give my all to someone I care for. But from experience majority of the people you put faith in will let you down. If you haven't been in a situation to question their loyalty is safer not to get your hopes high.

I am always surprised who comes out of the woodwork when I need help.

My broken leg was fairly bad, and a person 4 persons removed from me showed up one day and made my bathroom accessible so I could shower and use the toilet okay.
Lots of people were in and out of here, much more so that usual. Food cleaning, take me to the dr, whatever.

After my one and only surgery I lived at a friends' house for about a month and they fed and took care of me. For the first couple weeks, I was pretty immobile. It wasn't planned, I was supposed to be home the same day and back to work in a week, when I got released from the hospital I couldn't go home, so they just took me home with them.

Of course I do stuff like that too...

Well I guess, maybe? You never know who your friends are until you're in a pickle. I have had hard times, when help came from unexpected places.

But as far as family, no.

It would be like the closing scene of It's a Wonderful Life, where all of George Bailey's friends throw money at him.

Either my family or my wife's family would be able to help, but I don't think there is any financial catastrophe for which I am not insured or that I can't find myself. I would hate to have to ask for help, personally. But I do realize that sometimes it is needed.
