John Kasich might be the only chance the GOP has at winning the white house in 2016

I was wondering how long it would take one of the RWNJ Lit members (only) to call him a RINO. Because Kasich will get mutilated by the far right of the GOP base.

So tell us Vette, still thinking Walker has a "record to run on"?

Krauthammer picks Walker to win, and I like Walker tho I can live with Kasich.

Bush and Romney are snake bit, and the rest will die along the way.

Webb for the Democrats.

Does Silver have a prediction? AFter the last couple of years if he tells me this year is Donald Trump vs Micheal Moore I'm going to ask how we get there, not doubt him.

the only reason why Walker scares you ... he will cut off your welfare

then what will you and your kind do? life without welfare would be .... hard (another thing that you can't do)

Dear neverEndingMoron,

I'm reiterating this because you obviously have some sort of learning disability.

I am not, nor have I ever been a recipient of welfare. The only time I've taken a check from the government was during my service in the US Army, Student loans (long since repaid), and the occasional refund from the IRS.

Speaking of taxes, are mine still subsidizing your flood insurance? I only ask because your position against public assistance of any kind is well known and it gives me a laugh to point out your blatant hypocrisy.

By the way, I'm up for (yet another) promotion and a hefty raise to go with it. So don't worry too much about your being a burden on society. I'm paying my share and making sure that when, not if, your mobile home gets wiped out by a hurricane, your federally subsidized flood insurance puts you right back in a nice single-wide.

You're welcome.

Sincerely,
Ulaven_DeMorte; taxpayer

Why Kasich?

He eliminated an 8 million dollar shortfall, while cutting taxes, specifically the death tax, and taxes on small businesses. This fostered a climate that helped businesses create jobs. His policies helped turn around the economy in Ohio.

He does embrace common core, which I do not. Plus I think he could win a general election. whereas Bush wont. He'll wear the Bush name like an anchor around his neck, Romney wont....third time is not a charm. Christie will be crucified in the media, they still bring up bridge gate. Ben Carson cant win, no experience, Walker, Rubio.....maybe but I doubt they will get past the primaries. Rand Paul has some great ideas, he also has some looney ideas.

Snip:

The governor has presided over new abortion restrictions, limits on voting participation, curbs on food stamps, income tax cuts that benefit the wealthy, and large cuts to local government and education.

Ultimately, the group that felt the most run over by Kasich’s first budget was local government, which lost more than $1 billion through direct spending cuts and the elimination of the estate tax, 80 percent of which fed Ohio’s vast network of counties, municipalities and cities. Cuts to K-12 funding totaled $700 million.

Why Kasich?

The short answer is that he's proven he can win statewide in Ohio, and that's probably a prerequisite for any Republican to be elected president.

I wouldn't vote for him, and in fact have not voted for him when I've had the chance. But I don't think he pushes the same hate buttons as someone like Walker, and the GOP base wants to nominate a hater in 2016. Kasich expanded Medicaid and is still pro-Common Core. He'll be eaten alive in the South.

Why not? He's young, intelligent, well spoken, conservative, immigrant background, and he speaks fluent Spanish.

Four of those six things describe Barack Obama. And now they're pluses? Hilarious.

I would not vote against Kasich as I would some Republicans. As gov. of a large state, he has shown he can handle the job, certainly better than any Dem candidates I've heard about. As for losing in the South, I believe that, just as any Dem can count on the black vote, almost any Rep. would win the South.

I would also not vote against Walker or Rubio. In the primary, I will vote for Walker unless something happens to change my mind.

Those characteristics describing Rubio are all pluses, and they did help Obama get elected. However, the current POTUS still knows nothing about governing, even after six years. The only thing he does know are community organizing and raising and spending taxes and destroying the national economy.

Silver don't make predictions, he makes prognosis. And he'll tell you to wait at least a year until there's something resembling, you know, data.

The thing is Kasich has to MAKE it far enough for the fact that a Rep will win the south to be relevant.

If Obama has destroyed the national economy I pray I live long enough to see what you consider growing the economy because it must involve everybody driving gold plated helicoptors to their private islands.

And Obama governs just fine.

I was referring to Kasich in the South in the context of a Republican primary, not the general election.

But he could still lose the South in the general if the Tea Partiers get fed up and try a third-party run. Of course, then the Democrat wins, and of course, anyone who agrees to be the TP's candidate could never come back to the GOP . . . who would be reckless enough to try it?

I thought they might do that when Romney ran, and it didn't happen. Romney, you'll recall, was the father of Obamacare, came from Massachusetts, and represented a minority religion.

That should have settled it once and for all: the Tea Party IS the Republican Party, and vice versa. Unless they dig up Abe Lincoln and run him again, there's not going to be a high-profile rightwing challenger to the GOP nominee.

They will just do what they always do: back their man until he loses, at which point he'll be derided as a RINO who never had a chance.

To be fair several of our righties never really backed Romney and called him a RINO from the get go. They were simply unwilling to name who from the nominees should win.

They were just sold that Obama was a commie and America would reject his commie ways. But they were also sure he'd get impeached, or he'd step down, or he'd get primaried.

If Lincoln ran for the nomination in today's GOP, he'd get creamed; he wouldn't get a single Southern state.
