Racial Fatigue?

A white person puts in for a promotion and doesn't get it. They will probably say oh well..wasn't meant to be or I wasn't right for the job.

Same thing happens to a black person? They didn't get the job cause they are black is the first thing out of their mouth...I've seen that happen so many times.

And even today, isn't it true more often than not?

I hope my response will not seem like an attack. Nevertheless, Jesse Jackson disagrees with you about not seeing color. This is what he has written about the matter, "There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery. Then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved."
But you see, I don't feel relieved if I see a white man behind me. To me they are just as dangerous as a black man. I am female...so therefore every man is a potential risk. I do not judge someone by their race...I just see a person who is capable of hurting me.

What happened to Michael Brown was horrible, but it would have been horrible no matter what race he was. I was not there, I do not know what happened. But, if a cop asks me to do something? I am going to do it, cause all the power is on their side, and for a reason too.

But you bet your ass if I had a man coming at me, and I thought he meant me harm and I had a gun? Hell yes I would shoot, and never think twice.

What about the cops being charged with murder that shot and killed the homeless man in new Mexico? White cop kills a white man...didn't hear much about that did we? If he had been black we would have. I just think its made about race from the very people who are doing the complaining.

Sadly, in this world, I have to have a "me or them mentality" when it comes to a person of any race that poses a potential harm to me.

No, every man is not a threat. In fact statistically you should be worried about your friends, family and co-workers not some stranger who has no clue who you are. Those people aren't likely to rape you or murder you. Maybe mug you if you're in certain places.

Yes you would hear, and should in many cases hear more when a cop (of any race) kills a black. There is sufficient reason to believe that at the very least they have a lot less problem shooting minorities.

Because that is seeing race, and use whiteness as an excuse? Being black in many cases is not an excuse it's a reason. Rules are NOT rules across the board.
I disagree. To me, rules are rule....no matter the skin color.
I don't see race, I see blacks using race as an excuse. I don't use race as an excuse and I don't blame things on people just because they are black.

I guess I don't understand why being black is a reason for anything. I don't treat people differently just because their skin is a different color.

I'm sorry, but as female, every man is a potential threat. I am tiny, and not very strong. So, I never walk alone, and I never go down dark alleys or streets, and white men worry me just as much as black men.

You can bet on it. Zumi and crew will be here soon to inform you that when you were born you were endowed with a magical "white privilege" that enables you to say "Open Sesame!" and everywhere you look doors are pushed open and other white folks rush outside to kneel on the ground and point the way through the golden light emanating from within.
Well that hasn't happened to me unfortunately. I haven't had any special privilege cause I am white.

I've worked and earned everything I have, and if I do not get into the nursing school, I will not use being white as a reason why. It will be because I was not good enough. It's that simple.

This line of thinking fails to support Sean's narrative on the need for racial entitlement.
Everyone has their opinion. If Michael Brown had been white, I do not think anything would have been said, cause it's ok for a cop to shoot and kill a white man but not a black man.

Why are black men so much more important? All lives matter.

Through a lifetime of hard work, I too have earned every damn thing I ever owned as well; but that didn't stop them from instructing me in the blessings of "white privilege" I was allegedly born with.
Yeah, I must have missed that line for "white privilege". I missed out on that entirely.

That however simply isn't true, we've proven that just having a black NAME means you are less likely to get called in for an interview. You think that having black skin doesn't effect you ability to get a job?

And your entire conversation here is proof that you do treat people differently based on their skin.

I'm sorry, but as female, every man is a potential threat. I am tiny, and not very strong. So, I never walk alone, and I never go down dark alleys or streets, and white men worry me just as much as black men.

No, we aren't. I'm sorry for whatever happened that made you so fucking paranoid. I hope one day you get the counseling you need before you hurt somebody.

Of course this has happened to you, the thing is you view it as normal. It never even occurs to you that being named Karen instead of Kiesha is right out the gate an advantage for you.

You can't use white as a reason you didn't get into school. The only thing you can possibly use white as an excuse for failing at it being a rap star.

This line of thinking fails to support Sean's narrative on the need for racial entitlement.

Or the reality of the world, but hey whatever.

Through a lifetime of hard work, I too have earned every damn thing I ever owned as well; but that didn't stop them from instructing me in the blessings of "white privilege" I was allegedly born with.

And nobody begrudges that you earned what you earned (not that you earned every damn thing) but that doesn't prevent you from having white privilege and you know it.

If Micheal Brown had been white it's highly likely he never would have been shot.

And no, in America black lives do not matter. That's the difference.

Post the truth you "proved."

We've been over this for years.

Employers replies to racial names.

The 50 percent gap in callback rates is statistically very significant, Bertrand and Mullainathan note in Are Emily and Greg More Employable than Lakisha and Jamal? A Field Experiment on Labor Market Discrimination (NBER Working Paper No. 9873). It indicates that a white name yields as many more callbacks as an additional eight years of experience. Race, the authors add, also affects the reward to having a better resume. Whites with higher quality resumes received 30 percent more callbacks than whites with lower quality resumes. But the positive impact of a better resume for those with Africa-American names was much smaller.

"While one may have expected that improved credentials may alleviate employers' fear that African-American applicants are deficient in some unobservable skills, this is not the case in our data," the authors write. "Discrimination therefore appears to bite twice, making it harder not only for African-Americans to find a job but also to improve their employability."

Whitening the Resume

Tahani Tompkins was struggling to get callbacks for job interviews in the Chicago area this year when a friend made a suggestion: Change your name. Instead of Tahani, a distinctively African-American-sounding name, she began going by T. S. Tompkins in applications.

Yvonne Orr, also searching for work in Chicago, removed her bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, a historically black college, leaving just her master’s degree from Spertus Institute, a Jewish school. She also deleted a position she once held at an African-American nonprofit organization and rearranged her references so the first people listed were not black.

Jose changes name to Joe

After sending off hundreds of job applications under the name Jose Zamora, he became frustrated because he wasn't getting any responses back. So Jose changed his first name on his resume to Joe, just to see what would happen.

And that's just a name change, that's not with the person getting to see you face to face or learn anything about you.

The fact is that the disadvantage from being a non-dominant group often takes generations to overcome anyway and nobody is arguing that blacks were remotely equal in the 60's.

That however simply isn't true, we've proven that just having a black NAME means you are less likely to get called in for an interview. You think that having black skin doesn't effect you ability to get a job?

I cannot help the way the way you feel, but you did get a good laugh from me about me hurting someone...lol. That was funny as hell.

But I still, and I always will, see everything you said as using race as an excuse.

My hubby worked at one store, a Fortune 50 company, he was an Asst. Store Manager. He had this employee, he was a young black man...he missed work all the damn time. He was late, never called in, promised doctor notes, never brought them...hubby thought he deserved to be fired.

Know what hubby was told? Leave him alone, you cant touch him...he is black. We cannot do anything to black people, they will yell race and sue. Now, was that right? In 6 months, he missed over 15 times...for no reason. He should have been fired...a white man would have been.

It was the head honcho at HR that told hubby he could not fire him, and that head honcho was black.

I am not saying everything in this country is right, and I am sure everything you say happens really happens, but I DONT see that. I just see race being used an excuse.

But, man you gave me a good laugh. I'm still chuckling over that one..me hurting someone..lol

What, the concept of you hurting someone is very likely. You view me as a threat because I'm a male and if you had a gun you'd shoot me. I have no reason to think you wouldn't blow my head off returning your purse.

You think so? I doubt I will know it when it happens...but man I wish that white privilege would win me the lottery...lol

It IS the lottery. That's what you're going through great pains to ignore. Lets for the moment remove race and use a different lottery. Location.

Do you think Bill Gates would be as successful as he is if he'd been born in Mexico, South Africa, Turkey, Russia or China?

I suspect somebody named Dweezle or Moon Unit might not have an overwhelming response either. Only proves that names may be suspect, but it doesn't say much about race. I'd have to see the resumes as well, to see how literate they were. That means something too, but not much about race.

Of course names have something to do with race. You don't see a whole lot of white guys name Dwyane or Enrique. Now whether or not they are avoiding these names because they have something AGAINST minorities instead of something FOR their own kind is impossible to tell and ultimately doesn't matter. Because the end result is the same.

"A white teen who committed three hit-and-runs, several traffic violations, and assaulted a police officer not only received special treatment from the cops, she is now receiving special treatment from the prosecuting attorney who is supposed to make people pay the consequences for their crimes.

In September, 19-year-old Sarah Culhane became infamous as a BMW-driving white girl who didn’t get shot, tased, or beaten by police officers after she committed a string of serious crimes that left a woman and a police officer injured. The incident, which occurred in Pennsylvania, stood in stark contrast to the way police treated African-Americans like Michael Brown and Eric Garner, both of whom police killed.

As I wrote about this story almost five months ago, I predicted that Culhane could very well be let off the hook because of her skin color. Well, guess what just happened?

Culhane not only will escape jail time, she could see her record wiped clean.”

In other words, Black People get a funeral and White People get a second chance.

Welcome to your privilege, Smallgirl.
