Obama says 2014 had nothing to do with the 2016 election, and the GOP are so fucked. That is, the 2014 defeat of his policies was really a 2016 pre-victory.

What did I miss for this to make sense?

I'd go with either the last two years of high school and/or your prefrontal lobe.
 
It's simple: The GOP did so well in 2014 because of structural factors (a lot of vulnerable Dem seats open) that will be absent in 2016; also because of low voter turnout, which, again, will not be a factor in a presidential election.

I guess a "vulnerable" Democrat seat was what? All of them?

How about this: The GOP did well because Obama's policies were on the ballot and the voters aware enough to know what those policies actually mean showed up to vote.

Sure, lots of ad buys will get more Democratic party-line zero-information voters to the polls, but the country doesn't have any more than the usual 16-20% of the populous that believes as you do.
