The situation sounds like something that was not wise to pursue but there is certainly no reason to presume that something nefarious happened.
Egypt in the 1970's was more secular than it is today - which means there is a fighting chance that women were not held in such low regard.
In any event I think maybe you have been watching too many formulaic movies. Do you know what is down most dark alleys at night? Nothing. Do you know what happens when pretty girls go to the wrong side of town? Nothing. Do you know what happens to most reporters who take huge risks in war zones? They get a few scrapes and come home healthy with a good story.
All those things are dangerous and should be avoided because there is a substantially heightened risk of harm. But increasing the chance of rape from .01% to 10% is a thousand fold increase yet still only 1 in 10 chance of something bad happening.

It is quite interesting that your mother could tell you part of the story b ut wasn't able to convey the meat of the experience. My guess would be that there was an offer or even a sample of a "show" that she could not bring herself to describe. My guess, BTW, is based on stories of veterans in foreign lands who saw shows of sexual natures that blew their mid-western minds.

Yeah. That was my first thought. Why would she even tell you that part of the story at all and then leave you hanging? If something "bad" happened I doubt she would have told you anything.
