Hacking group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for disabling an extremist website based in France, the group announced on Twitter.

A tweet posted to the account OpCharlieHebdo (Operation Charlie Hebdo) said "Tango Down" and included a link to the website ansar-alhaqq.net, which has been linked to extremists.

The attack is the first success for Anonymous after the group posted a video last week saying it would target extreme social media accounts as part of efforts to protect freedom of speech.

I'm not sure how this is Mohammed or ISIS' fault. If a military branch has poor security, it's their own fault. If they're hiring private contractors, it's their own fault.

Welcome to 21st century warfare... in case you weren't paying attention, people don't line up across the field and shoot at each other "honorably" anymore.

The US has declared war on ISIS. ISIS has very little reach to the US except through means like this.

It was a social media account, not a secure military network. No classified information was compromised. This assumes, of course, that the four star generals were not stupid enough to violate federal law and their own standing orders not to place such information on a public network.

That wouldn't solve the problem. The problem is not social media. The problem is a four star general obviously identifying himself as such on a public network. The hack occurred on a public network. The threatening language from the hackers was posted on a public network. A top commander of CENTCOM ought to have enough sense on ANY PUBLIC NETWORK not to identify himself accordingly.
