Purple highlights, would you get them? Is this a bold move or fashion suicide?

Not a lady but I had my hair purple, not highlights, all of it, for like... 3 years on and off and if you're a brunette it'll DESTROY it. You have to touch those roots up like once a week and it's just gonna burn the fuck out of it. It looks badass, don't get me wrong, but it's a LOT of upkeep. I imagine highlights will be even worse because you'll have to spend all that extra time isolating the exact place you dyed it before, doing the bleach, wrapping it, waiting, rinsing, putting in the pigment, wrapping, waiting, rinsing- until it's just a burnt mess. You can do that for years but you gotta have so much vanity that it outweighs the slothfullness naturally inherit in every human being.

Purple or blue hair always reminds me of little old ladies.
I can, and have, done every other colour in the past. Except blue or purple.
Nowadays though, being more mature in years, I stick to red, chocolate, etc.

I would do the temporary paint on streaks. My hair falls out and/or breaks at the drop of a hat, so no chemicals for me. Some of my hair is coming in silver in the last few months and those seem to be sort of different, maybe I should try painting them blue or something ;)

I tried that. I thought maybe the pigment would stick to the grey and leave the black black.... but it just did nothing. I think you have to bleach it first to prime it somehow or something.

I have had vampire red and magenta bangs for a very long time. I got my new job with my crazy hair and my visible tattoos. Why would some purple highlights be a problem? Especially with how popular this trend has become.

That's some punk rock old ladies.

It seems popular up here but is it everywhere?

You've never seen an old lady with a blue rinse?

Nah, old ladies usually have that same Christian, Republican haircut that is either, grey, white, or obviously dyed some natural color like brunette or blond. They'd never do something as badass as that. Or if they did it wouldn't be common enough to be a steriotype. It'd be an indicator that that particular old lady was a badass.

Edit: Oh my god I googled it to show you and I just realized that they're going for Betty White and failing.

How old is she? Also, purple will most likely fade to an ugly hue after a couple weeks unless she's diligent on color shampoo/conditioner etc

We used to have blue rinses here, it was like bluing in laundry to make greying hair look whiter.

Bad ass old ladies around here have a small braided pony tail off to one side at the back of their neck dyed hot pink or lime green.
