On Tuesday a pipebomb exploded outside an exterior wall near an NAACP Office in Colorado Springs, Colorado and immediately the Internet was abuzz with conspiracy theories, stories of white supremacists and even tales of white revenge for the murders of two NYPD officers.

The description of the suspect which was released by the FBI’s press office to The Atlantic and other press outlets was:


“A balding white male in his late 40s driving a white pickup truck with his license plates missing or obscured.”

Sounds legit right? It may have until someone who follows me on Twitter who has a really good eye for detail noticed something interesting.

It seems if you go into Google Streetview and plug in the address of the NAACP office in Colorado Springs, you will find this sitting in their parking lot.

For the sake of the NAACP and its witnesses, I hope they didn’t see this and assume it was the bomber.

Google Streetview compiles images of streets months or weeks in advance and very seldom updates them. The purpose of the tool is to give you an idea of what a street you’re going to travel on looks like and not to give you an exact image of it in real time.

If the FBI comes up with another motive, so be it, but you don't need a wild imagination to suppose that someone (very ineffectively) tried to blow up the building because they don't like what the NAACP does.
