Hi folks!
I was encouraged to post here in the poetry forum because of 2 things. First, I have a published erotic poem here on lit called "His Hands," which I'm told is pretty good. Second, I tend to work poetry into my normal, every day posts. I use it to entertain people.
The thing is, I've been a bit scared to post here because I consider you guys "real poets." I have fun with it. I love the cute little poems I write, and other people seem to like them, but I'd be willing to bet there are "rules of poetry" I don't even know exist. What I mean is, I'm not a technical poet. Writing the poetry I write comes naturally to me, and while I know some terminology, I'm no expert.
So I've hesitated to post here because I'm sure there are some really serious critics here, and I don't want to lose the fun I've had with what I've done. Someone thinks I'm worthy though, so I agreed to at least introduce myself here. So... Hi folks!

firstly, welcome! this is an open forum for people at all stages along the path of poetry. and most of those who are '''good'' now started out at the beginning - we all do.

it's a great idea to post your writing up in here for more detailed feedback than you might receive just putting it onto the publishing part of the site.

don't take anything personally - any crit should be addressing your writing not your character.

always consider the source of the critique - you may or may not agree with points raised but there's no need to get into heated arguments over it, nor try to change everything to please different opinions.

even if you don't agree with the crit offered, that doesn't mean it's necessarily wrong - it's valuable inasmuch as insight into how others perceive what you've written.

not every critique will be helpful. only time will tell.

don't change a word unless it feels right for you to do so, and sometimes it takes time for suggestions to percolate down - maybe even years before they make real sense.

i hope you never lose your love of writing!

Well hello there, I'd love to read your 'cute little poems'. You have me intrigued now and I do hope you'll take the plunge :)
To tell you the truth when some of the poets get into technicalities I'm lost too. It's horses for courses, if those posts don't ring your bell there's no need to feel you're a lesser poet for it.
I must admit that some people's dirty ditties leave me cold, If I'm going to write a ditty (dirty or not) I try to make it amusing, that way some may forgive many sins!
Am I presuming your poems are of the rhyming kind? If so you might want to check out other forms (a thread of them is pinned to the top of the page).
When I first arrived I was rhyming only (I still do at times!) and the great advice I got from the rest of the resident poets helped me move on in other directions too. I hope you will stay and find your niche here too.

Thank you. Maybe one day I'll get brave and actually link to my poem here, or post it directly.
As for getting better, I guess I'm not really trying to get better. I'm not saying I'm the greatest ever, far from it, but I'm OK with where I am. As long as I can put a smile on peoples' faces with it, I'll be happy.

Thank you for this as well. I do feel better about being here because of these post, and certainly more welcome.
All my poems rhyme. I will occasionally use different types of rhymes, but I always rhyme.
Perhaps, along with my erotic poem, I'll post the 2 verses of a musical numbe about bumping a forum thread that I wrote. It got high praise in the thread I posted it in.
Thank you again.

Hi. :)

You're most welcome here as is your poetry! You'll find a lot of support and folks who share a poetry obsession. If you ask for serious critique you will get it, but if you just want to do your thing and write your way no one is going to rain on your parade. (Well if anyone tries there is always the ignore function.)

There's a thread on the main poetry forum, Everyday Erotica, that might interest you. Please join in wherever though and don't hesitate to ask if you have questions.
