Plus mine is crazy-curly and doesn't really do the whole"tied" thing!

My hair is pretty similar, I think, but hair bondage works for me.

1) make a ponytail
2) put a rope horizontally under/over the end of the ponytail
3) start rolling the rope up so that your hair twists around it, it works better if you spread the hair a bit at first so that the initial twists are wider, but make sure to tuck in most of the ends towards the middle so that it doesn't start to unravel
4) roll until you reach the base of the ponytail (not too tightly, though) and make a knot or two or three over the base

You just have to make sure the ponytail is initially in a place where you can take the tugging and that the pressure lands evenly. I've noticed it best that I don't include the hair closest to my face to the ponytail at all. I don't know how that would work on a shorter hair, mine is about bra strap length.

And now that I read what I wrote, I'm not sure if that explanation made any sense at all. :)

No, no, that makes total sense. And it's brilliant because I never thought of trying it that way. My hair's roughly shoulder-length now (longer in the front than in the back), but I think it'd still work.
