Just finished watching The Shawshank Redemption with my son. It was his first time seeing it and he absolutely loved it. I think one of the great joys of parenthood is exposing your kids to the great movies, music, books that you love and, hopefully, watching them feel the same way about it that you do.

What favourites have you passed down to your progeny?

I don't have any human progeny, but I enjoy subjecting my dog to my film choices. We just finished Clue.

I loved showing "Empire of the Sun" to my daughter. Christian Bale was the young boy (now a celebrity).

PS. i LOVE Shawshank…I've only watched it about 100 times so far. ;) maybe more.

If you like Clue you should try Murder By Death. It's the same concept but in comedy form starring Peter Sellers, Peter Falk, Maggie Smith, David Niven, Alec Guinness , Truman Capote and a host of others.

I hope you weren't wearing that outfit when you watched Empire.

I've recently also shown him Silence of the Lambs and The Usual Suspects. He loved them both. Makes me so proud that he has good taste.

lol, no…it was quite awhile ago. Was your son watching you pull that tit? ;)
I love Silence of the Lambs too. I'll have to research The Usual Suspects. I don't think i've seen that.

"No pulse, no heartbeat. If condition does not change, this man is dead."

One of my favorites, certainly.

I mean this in the nicest way...don't come back here till you've seen it. You'll thank me.

+1 for Yossi. The fact that you can quote it might get you an extra point. I'm as yet undecided.

Shawshank is a fantastic film, one that I've loved for years. That said, I'm a bit more partial to Silence of the Lambs - one of the greats!

This one's quite different from those, but have you seen Arlington Road?

Yes I have. Tim Robbins was excellent in it. It's on my like but not love list.

ha, thanks. So in other words, don't come back here? We don't have a video store that carries it. I'd have to find it on tv perhaps.

I think I'm a wimp. Silence of the Lambs freaked me out!!!!:D

Wimp!
haha, perhaps I am. I don't usually download movies. Now i will know where to go to get it. I thought this would be a thread just to talk, didn't know It was a prerequisite to watch them first.
I have very stringent rules for my threads.
Some can handle it, some can't. It was in a league of it's own. Not a real fan of Hannibal or Red Dragon, for many reasons.
Same here. They don't measure up to Silence.
I love me some points. Decide in my favor!
I can't resist a kinky gal who can bake. +1
Finally, someone who recognizes greatness. My favorite all time lyric:

Her name was Magill
She called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy

I always wondered why they called her Nancy. I can totally get the Magill to Lil connection but I always figured it was the only thing they could come up with that rhymed with fancy.

I saw that many years ago. If I remember correctly its one of those movies in which almost every other word is a profanity. If I want to hear profanities I can make a recording of myself, I don't need to pay for Hollywood trash to hear bad words.

Which movie are you referring to?

Me and one of my little ones were both feeling a bit sick earlier this week, so we settled into the recliner and watched The Princess Bride together, then did the same thing the next day. Now he is quoting lines from the movie.

He loves that one too. We have a movie night planned for NYE and everyone gets to pick a movie. The wife is choosing Princess Bride.

I like Shawshank and that is a classic line.

So is, "I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend."

I'm also a fan of Jeremiah Johnson. "You're the same dumb pilgrim that I been hearin' for twenty days, and smellin' for three!"

A River Runs Through It is a favorite as well, but you might have guessed that by now.

Yeah she doesn't really... watch things. She watches me play video games but mostly just tries to eat my controller. I watch things with my little brother; we just watched Over The Garden Wall. He loves him some Jason Voorhees and I took him to meet him at Scarefest once, thought he'd be really excited but he got all nervous and clammed up. Just kinda threw the machete at him like, "I LOVE YOUR MOVIES PLEASE SIGN THIS YOU ARE AWESOME" and kept screaming at him. All nice things but he got the fanboy /so bad/ and got all blushy and it was adorable. I also talked to Hodder Kane or Kane Hodder or whatever his name is for a long time. About his sister living in a tent and him getting severely injured on the set of some movie and it was, altogether, a great day. That's when my brother was super little, tho.
We watched the Myazaki movies together, but we got to Pom Poyo and couldn't finish it. Got to the part where the old Tanooki made an entire ship out of his nutsack and we were both like, "...welp. I think we've got as much as we can from this movie." He did that with Eva too but I made him finish it. He got to the part where Shinji was jacking off over Ausuka's comotose body and was like, "Seriously. Fuck Shinji." And Shinji goes, "I'm fucked up" and my brother's like, "YEAH YOU ARE!"

Fuck Shinji tho. Seriously. Fucking hate Shinji. He hates Shinji too. Fuck Shinji.
