Week before last I read that Ian McLagan of the Faces and Small Faces bands of the 60's and 70's passed away as well. His prior interview on NPR was fascinating.

I got to see him once, about ten years ago. We sat in the front row and got to meet him after the show. He was dynamic. Even at his age his voice sounded amazing and he was full of energy. You could tell he was truly enjoying himself and the audience went crazy..

Afterwards, we waited in line to see him. They allowed each person, couple or group to see him individually, which was cool. The guy did warn us however, he said "Joe is a very quiet, very shy man and if you wish to speak with him, you will have to initiate"..

I was totally surprised by that. The guy was such a legend for so many years. But the guy was right. We initiated the talk and he was extremely gracious for our thoughts about him and his music. My date was thoroughly enthralled, he was her very favorite artist. Well Joe pulled me aside, and whispering in my ear he asked if he could kiss my gf on the cheek. I said of course, he did and she was just beside herself. It was a terrific moment that I will always remember.


RIP...you were one awesome artist and one super classy dude...

I love hearing stories like that one. This may sound stupid but, he reminded me of the Tony Bennett of rock and roll. He seemed to have been around for ever and did just about any song he waned to but in his own style.
