That's the awful truth. A very close friend of mine was raped by her husband and never reported. I only found out about it recently and it makes it hard because I'm friends with them both and I understand the struggle she went through to decide not to report it. Never knew the guy was capable of that kind of thing. What do we as a society do? He's the father of her children, she's not going to leave him and she's dependent on him anyway. It benefits her very little to see him punished, or to even go through the whole rigamarole to have nothing come of it. But there's no consequence for him either, no way to stop it from happening again. She certainly can't threaten him with a gun for the same reasons she can't threaten him with going to the police.

ETA: No disrespect meant. I truly feel kind of helpless watching this happen and I'm open to learning more about the issue.

Which advice would have been better for her? "Leave that bastard of Warmachine at the smallest suggestion of violence" or "carry a gun, so he won't rape you"? Keep in mind that she once loved him.
