Russian Interest rates 17%

That whole fucking with Obama thing worked out well for them didn't it?

It's not as if he had anything to do with Russia's problem.

Russia Defends Ruble With Biggest Rate Rise Since 1998
By Olga Tanas and Anna Andrianova Dec 15, 2014 4:38 PM PT

In a surprise announcement just before 1 a.m. in Moscow, the Russian central bank said it would raise its key interest rate to 17 percent from 10.5 percent, effective today. The move was the largest single increase since 1998, when Russian rates soared past 100 percent and the government defaulted on debt.

The news prompted an immediate gain in the ruble, with one-month ruble forwards up 1.6 percent in Asian trading.

Yet the announcement, as well as its timing, underscored the financial straits in which Russia now finds itself. If sustained, the new higher rates would squeeze an economy that is already being hurt by sanctions led by the U.S. and European Union, and by a collapse in oil prices. Some analysts said they doubted the economy could withstand such high rates for long.

Oh, and that whole thing where we've got record high oil. Don't let the truth hitcha on the way out!

There's a direct correlation between the rate of decline of the ruble against the dollar and the rate of decline of Vetty's posts about how "strong" a leader Putin is.

Has nothing to do with Obama. We have record oil production in spite of Obama, not because of him. Most of it is on private land.

It's amazing you believe that's even possible. Nothing (good) ever happens in spite of a president. Nothing, ever in history.

Nothing good has happened under Obama, that he had anything to do with. Maybe you can draw up a list.

Your partisan blinders are showing. C'mon man. Even the righties that go on talk shows give him credit for certain things.

Record oil production
More international respect than we've enjoyed
honesty about torture and (alledgedly) putting a stop to it
lower deficit
Obamacare

I don't remember them all off the top of my head though but lots of good if we get lucky a higher minimum wage but I'm not really holding my breath on that. The man has proven if nothing else that he has no spine when it comes to dealing with Republicans.

IF you believe that Obama doesn't have anything to do with your a liar and that makes it hard to address any of the rest of this. The idea we enjoy less respect now is positively absurd, maybe RIGHT now after it's been discovered that Obama knew about the torture and lied right along with Bush bringing me to the next point. It was an honest report and it basically told us what we knew all along, a bunch sadists got together and had a good time because that's sadists do. Yes, Obama will add tons to the debt, every president will, more than the one before most likely until and unless we raise taxes or just hit a great boom. Obamacare didn't cost anybody the Senate and the House that was a forgone conclusion and we both know it.

It's okay Vette, we both knew long ago you weren't an honest man anymore. Your hatred of Obama over something he has no control over is so strong it turned you and a good chunk of the country rabid.

Sean, he's too far gone. He's like addict given multiple opportunities but it's just time to let him go. There is no reasoning with him anymore. Which is sad because he wasn't always this way. Sad indeed.

None of them were and it was fun, for about two years but now I'm honestly afraid I have to wait for my father's entire generation to hurry and die so progress can be made and that's a dark feeling that hurry up and die is starting to be how I feel about the yes more so conservatives but Baby Boomers as a large.

They did. Look at the "Obama good" thread. As far as I could tell, other than some random, meaningless conflated statistics, he looks great in a suit, has a nice family and the holiday decorations are amazing.

There's more of a correlation between the crappy Russian economy and the falling price of oil, than other factors such as sanctions.

Back in March:

All true except I don't think we're making any money on it, at least not until Obama get's smart and unleashes our energy sector to compete against the Russians. I was speaking hypothetically about a military engagement. Obama isn't about the battlefield, in fact I think he's in the process of degrading our military, to make sure it doesn't represent a credible force to either the Chinese or the Russians, save a nuclear threat against the nation's annihilation. Obama like all leftists, think our military and American strength are the biggest problems in the world.

That's sort of what's happened, isn't it?

Not in the least. Successes in production were despite the administration's best efforts to hamper production. Production happened because of record high oil prices making new techniques, methods and locations feasible.
