Theory of hypothesis?
Either way, I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say.
Because when it comes to an epidemic, you wipe out the carriers and treat the sick. That is the method of change.
When it comes to a culture, we all are a part of it. If the culture changes, we all must change. Rapists and non Rapists are interchangeable, Because we are all a party to it. We are Equal, in work, love and rape.
I think the concept of rape culture is a tool to change or society. E are all supposed to jump on the bandwagon here, and agree to changes which aren't in our best interests.
I will bump my last thread on this

What does all of that mean, though? I mean, those who use that terminology the most are feminists and what they seem to want to do is wipe out the carriers of "rape" so to speak. What does it mean that we're all equal in work, love and rape? And what changes do "they" want to make that are not in our best interests?
Interesting analogy, though not quite apt.
Epidemics have external causes; viral or bacteriological. Very few went looking to intentionally spread polio and fewer went to intentionally contract it.
Culture has many facets. However, my limited understanding of rape is that it's about demonstrating power in one of the most physically intimate ways possible. Maybe it would clarify the topic to separate the sexual component and instead classify rape as a form of torture.
There is a cultural component to torture, but those who enjoy torturing others, while they likely have a cultural component to their psychological makeup, are usually very, very disturbed individuals which need to be removed from the rest of society.
This feels like a LJ Reloaded thread.
How do you wipe out the carriers of rape? Rapists are predators. They give zero fucks about the law. Why should society shift on account of the heinous behaviors of a minority of people who give zero fucks about laws and being a decent citizen? Do you think a serial rapist will stop based on a TV commercial? Will he change if we all give up a little bit of our rights in the name of fighting rape culture? Of course he won't.
By demanding a cultural shift, you change the behaviors of everyone BUT Rapists.
But perhaps that is the point?

Okay, I honestly don't know enough about rape or rape culture to present any decent arguments for or against.Everyone does not agree that rape is about power and not sex. I don't believe that. Yes, the University professors convinced the majority of that opinion, but I don't share it. I think that is bullshit, links be damned One can't prove it either way, so it is useless in this discussion.

Yes, how do you wipe out predators? How do you pinpoint the causes of a mind to go the direction it needs to go to feel entitled in such a way as to take advantage of someone weaker than them or to violate someone's body in such an intimate, brutal way? Are you a rapist if you've never done it but you've thought someone deserved to be raped by you or you have made plans/had fantasies about doing so? Where does the potential to become one come from? There is a theory that rape culture exists because normal people act like rape is okay and will tolerate these predatory behaviors. A man who makes jokes or exhibits predatory behavior among his buddies will be tolerated, his behavior ignored until he acts on something everyone had red flags about.
I'm not disagreeing with you, by the way. I think you bring up some very good points but I am trying to add to the discussion because I'd like to hear more of what you have to say.![]()

So, if the point is to change the culture for everyone BUT rapists, what is the end goal?
It is exactly the MO of the anti-gun lobby. Talk about a "culture of violence" then indict everyone in society that has never participated in violence with or without a gun.
I am only being mildly facetious when I say that when all men are emasculated, only rapists will have dicks.
It has nothing to do with reducing the incidence of rape, since as you correctly point out rapists are not abiding by law much less cultural norms. It is only about dis-empowering men in the hopes that tearing men down somehow raises the status of women. Together with your other thread that of course, means white women.
What do you suppose is the end game of empowering white women? I don't know. Consumer Class is my best guess but I am open to better ideas
Rape becomes a culture with politics. The America boasts about their 'freedom', which at the same time, is the downfall of the country. Just look at some of the Arab countries, you won't even hear a story of raping.
