tis that time of year
it is, but we're delaying putting up the tree and decorating the window in work for a little... one of our volunteer ladies, a friend and colleague, didn't turn up for work and was found dead at home friday night. instead of decorations, we've a book of condolences for friends and customers to sign. she'd worked here about 8 years, 4 afternoons a week. a big shock. :(

but she loved the xmas stuff, so we will get to it soon enough.

I am so sorry for your loss and for her family as well. This year will be hard, but hopefully next year it will be lovely decorating and thinking of her at christmas time.

thankyou, lori. friday was disbelief, yesterday was emotionally difficult for everyone who knew her. she wasn't old, 67, but despite being very gregarious outside her home inside she locked herself and her dog away. never answered a phone call directly but would call the number back if she wanted, never answered a door, never would go to a doctor or dentist or optician. she's had falls before and just closed out the world till she felt better, and wouldn't carry a mobile phone around with her. we told her so many times. *sigh* but she did things the way she wanted, never knew anyone as stubborn, or as funny to work with. her daughter came in to thank us for getting in touch with the police, and said she was the same with family members too. everyone was crying. god, it was awful.

i'm ok, really. ty. she'll leave a big hole in our lives but her presence is still vivid - even yesterday we had to laugh at something because we knew it would have tickled her funny bone. we even have a short, fat, saucy fairy we call by her name that we get out every year to hang on the tree. she would strike the pose and have us all giggling. she was like the naughty girl at the back of the class, making faces behind the boss' back when she got all 'i'm the boss'.
