Hillary Clinton is taking heat for saying America should “empathize” and show “respect” for its enemies.

The former secretary of State, who is considered a likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate, made the remarks during a speech Wednesday at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Touting an approach she calls “smart power,” Clinton urged America to use “every possible tool and partner” to advance peace.

This, she said, includes “leaving no one on the sidelines, showing respect even for one’s enemies, trying to understand and insofar as psychologically possible, empathize with their perspective and point of view.”

What's new about 'Know your enemy'?

It is good tactics. If you know how they think, how they might react in given circumstances, you can fight them more effectively.

And former enemies can become future allies.

Miles advocates for ignorance. Now that's good policy.

Mandela said the same bullshit, and he put a tire around people and lit them on fire.

At the start of the Pacific Theater war, the Japanese underestimated the US and its forces; the US underestimated the Japanese.

If they had 'empathised and shown respect' to each other, the war in the Pacific Theater might have been avoided for a while, and the US might have been better prepared for Pearl Harbor.

Reality means nothing when miles wants to get his Hillary Hate on.

Someone tell me how you empathize and show respect for barbarians who behead and brutally murder innocent men, women, and children?

So we should have shown respect and empathy for Japan after the Rape of Nanking?

It isn't easy. But their actions are a deliberate policy. They intend to terrorise and frighten opponents.

We Europeans used to do it by sacking successfully besieged towns. It made the next town more likely to surrender early. Even during the Second World War in Europe, atrocities were a military tactic. The winners tried the losers for 'War Crimes'. If the position had been reversed, the Allies, particularly the Soviets, could have been convicted of 'War Crimes' too.

We should have known our enemy better. You can have respect for fighting ability even if you hate what they stand for.

Yes, and...

That leads to understanding. Social Workers need empathy with some appallingly bad individuals if they are going to resolve the situation. Empathy does not have to mean that you agree with who they are and what they do. It means you can think like they do.

Empathy means you can fuck with their head.

Great!

Let's send greeting cards to ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Iran telling them we empathize with their feelings.

Like Britain was. The Land of Faggots had its ass handed to it everywhere. The only reason FDR saved you was to furnish Stalin with homosexual spies after the war.

Hillary cant be elected President. Have you seen her lately? She looks like a Cabbage Patch doll. And her ass shames Kim K.

Historical examples of 'empathy'

The Japanese did not understand what the US public's reaction would be to an attack on Pearl Harbor before war was declared. That was a fatal lack of empathy.

In the European theatre, the invasion of Sicily was made easier by the deception of 'The Man Who Never Was' - an apparent Royal Marine officer washed ashore in Spain suggesting that the attack would be against Corsica. The planners of that deception knew that the Spanish official to whom the find would be reported was a Nazi sympathiser, that he had contacts with a German agent in Spain, and that the proposed target would be believed by the German High Command. That required empathy not just of the individuals but of the German war machine.

An even more spectacular success was the phantom army in East Anglia poised to attack the North of France before or after D-Day. It was 'commanded' by General Patton. The planners knew that the Germans couldn't believe that Patton, the Allies most successful general, could be sidelined for something as important as D-Day. Patton and his phantom army made the Germans send their best troops and armour to the Channel Coast to face the 'real' invasion they knew was coming. Even after the D-Day beachheads had been secured by the Allies, the German High Command and Hitler still believed Patton would attack in the North. Again - empathy - understanding how the Germans would react and fucking with their heads.
