Question regarding reviewing Lit author stories!

I hope this is the right board, or an okay one, for my question. Okay, so ya'll know of Lit's Reviews & Essays category, right? Is it okay to review a Lit author or actual story of theirs and put the(my) review in said category? Do I need to notify the author?

I don't think so. I mean, it isn't necessary to notify the Author, but I think it'll be great if you let someone know that you're dedicating a Review for their work.

Legitimate reviews are strictly independent. So, notification to the author that one is up would be nice, but there's no need to contact the author about it beforehand at all--and best if you didn't. I don't see why a review of someones' Lit. work wouldn't fit well in the Review category. It also would fit well right on this forum. It constitutes feedback.

Thank you, both, for the info. I think it would be fun to write up a review as a submission. It seems that coulategory needs a little life in it.

Am I right in thinking that this was moved here from the Story Feedback board? If so, why? It about feedback (reviews) of Lit. stories. Is all the variety to be sucked out of the Story Feedback forum?

I'm sure there was a good reason behind it.

And besides, this thread works fine for the AH too. I don't see any problem with it being here too. The OP may get a response from more people apart from the SF regulars which are far lesser than AH.

To Pilot: She asked a particular question regarding the Topic Reviews and Essays, which I think is fine with the AH. Question is not about variety in Story Feedback. It's about getting a varied and multiple response for a particular question.

Besides, I asked the OP beforehand and she was cool with it.

It was fine in Story Feedback, too, and that's where she posted it. Once again, I think you're overstepping your role as Mod.

I don't think Bard is over stepping a thing. He thought I may receive more/better answers regarding my question. After all, it was for advice on writing in the Reviews & Essays category. I could have just as easily put it in How To due to wanting advice...

If anything, the only suggestion I received that I didn't need/ask for was about "reviewing an author within the board.
